This is a NO RESERVE listing.

This is my 1988 Porsche 944 Special Edition coupe with only 100,588 miles.

This is one of the best-condition, low-mileage Porsche 944 models you will find for sale anywhere in the country.

The Special Edition is very rare, only 500 of these cars were brought to the US total, and only 250 in this unique Zermatt Silver color.

The timing belt, rollers and water pump were replaced on this car 7000 miles ago.  This is CRITICAL maintenance on a 944- do not buy a 944 that you do not know the last timing belt replacement, or figure to spend $1200 on this service immediately upon purchase.  If the timing belt breaks, the engine is destroyed.

This car has the following equipment and options:

  • 2.5L all-aluminum engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • leather bucket seats
  • automatic heating/climate control with A/C (retrofitted to R134a and working properly)
  • huge tilting and removable sunroof with storage sack
  • power steering and brakes
  • power locks and windows
  • heated power mirrors
  • staggered Phone Dial alloy wheels
  • integrated front foglights
  • Special Edition package

I have the books and manuals for this car, as well as the original window sticker.  The base price of the car was $29,100 plus options of Zermatt Silver Metallic ($645) and the rare Special Edition Package ($2437) with a total as-delivered price of $33,100.

This Porsche runs and drives very well.  I just took the car on a 400-mile weekend trip and it performed beautifully. The air conditioning has been retrofitted to R134a and it blows cold.  The engine is smooth and powerful, the transmission shifts perfectly, the clutch is tight, the suspension is very tight and stable, the brakes are good and the car drives wonderfully. This is a totally reliable and dependable car that I would drive across the country with no hesitation.

The interior of the car is in good shape.  The leather seats are newer to the car look good.  The plaid Special Edition upholstery is in good shape and looks nice.  The carpets are clean and in great condition.  This interior is in very nice condition overall.

The paint and exterior look very good.  The paint appears to be all original, with no known accidents or damage.  There is no body rust anywhere.  This car looks very good all around.

Also included with the car is some very valuable upgrade hardware that would be useful if you wanted to track this car.  I have a set of Koni adjustable coil-over front shocks plus a set of Koni rear shocks.  I also have 944 Turbo front spindles and brake calipers. These parts alone are worth at least a few hundred dollars.

This is a 1988 car and as such it is not perfect.  Please expect normal issues of wear and tear consistent with the age of the car.  Here is a list of everything I know of that is wrong with the car: The leather seats show some wear. There are a few cracks in the dashboard. The sunroof raises electrically but comes back down as soon as you release the button.  The sunroof removes from the car and reattaches perfectly. There are some minor dings on the hood. The outside passenger door handle does not work. The aluminum wheels are not perfect cosmetically.

I should mention that the dashboard clock/lap timer works perfectly which is very rare.  These clocks are going for $500 nowadays due to their rarity.

This is a great-running, great-looking, dependable and reliable Porsche 944.  I imagine you would have to look for a long time to find another one this nice for sale.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  Alternatively you can have the car shipped, please call Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481 for a shipping quote.

Former Porsche boss Wiedeking won't face criminal charges over VW bid

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Hedge fund managers have been suing Porsche for years now, alleging that the car company lied about its intentions during its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen, a gambit that caused them billion in losses. Over the same period, authorities in Stuttgart built a criminal case against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above, left) and Chief Financial Officer Holger Härter (right), filing charges in December 2012. When those fund plaintiffs lost their most recent court case, one of the dimming lights in the dark and receding tunnel was that the criminal investigation might unearth more evidence about Porsche's actions that could help the plaintiffs in pending litigation.
Bloomberg reports that another light has gone out, though, with a Stuttgart court dismissing the market manipulation case before going to trial because, as a court spokesperson said, "there wasn't enough evidence backing up the charges." When prosecutors get the files back from the court, they have a week to decide to refile, but unless they've been sandbagging evidence that could bolster the case, the only lights at the end of the tunnel will be those welcoming Wiedeking and Härter back to the world of legally unencumbered men.

Porsche looks back on very first 911 Turbo

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

Porsche has really hit on a winning formula with its series of videos going inside its vault. So far, we've seen the V8 911 prototype, mid-engine test mule and aerodynamic prototype. The company is sticking with the 911 theme in the latest entry, but this time it's an actual production car - the very first 911 Turbo ever made.
Being the first Turbo would make it important enough, but the car was also a birthday present for Louise Piëch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and sister to Ferry Porsche, and she regularly used the car. The family didn't just hand her a random car off the assembly line, either. She got to make it her own with some interesting modifications. She supposedly even painted landscapes from inside the car.
You have to wonder what Piëch thought of her present. The early Turbos had a reputation for being a bit of a handful to drive. The boost tended to bring the power all at once, which wasn't always welcome when cornering. She deserves some honor just for driving the car on the curvy, alpine roads. Scroll down to learn about this important Porsche, and we can't wait to see what car the brand showcases next.

Porsche considering X6-style Cayenne coupe

Mon, 05 May 2014

It was practically unthinkable when Porsche introduced the Cayenne in 2002. An SUV... from Porsche? Purists balked, but customers flocked, and the Cayenne propelled the its holding company into such profitability that it practically took over the entire Volkswagen Group. It's now been twelve years since the original Cayenne arrived as the first production Porsche with more than two doors, and Zuffenhausen has since followed up with the Panamera, the Macan and the second-generation Cayenne. But it isn't about to stop there.
The latest intel coming in from overseas suggests that Porsche is in the advanced stages of designing a slant-back, five-door Cayenne coupe to take on the likes of the BMW X6 and upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC. Though the business case (however solid BMW may have already demonstrated it to be) is still being considered, if approved it would join the upcoming third-generation Cayenne on the production line in Leipzig as early as 2018 - a year after the new Cayenne itself is expected to arrive.
The Cayenne coupe would share much with the more conventional MkIII Cayenne (and for that matter the next Audi Q7 and VW Touareg as well as the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Falcon) but differentiate itself with a more stylish (if less practical) roofline and an altogether sportier attitude. Autocar reports that the design calls for tauter sheetmetal and sportier cabin inspired by the 918 Spyder. Pricing would be positioned a good 15-20 percent higher than the regular Cayenne, and the "coupe" version would likely be offered with most, if not all of the engines available in the conventional version - including gasoline, diesel, turbo and possibly even hybrid options ranging all the way up to the 550-horsepower Turbo S.
