For sale is my 1984 Porsche 944. I bought this car about 5 years ago primarily for Porsche Club performance driving events. When I bought it, the car was already set up by a local PCA member, with lowered suspension, soft compound Kumho tires, BBS wheels, 5 point harnesses, brake pads, and fixed racing seats. Just before I purchased the car, the engine was completely rebuilt at a cost of $5800 by a reputable builder. I have all the documentation. I added a MOMO wheel and new brake pads and took the car to some events.

The car drives great, shifts crisply, handles very tightly, brakes strong. Clutch is solid and smooth. It's a great track car, especially for novice drivers. It has enough power to make it challenging, but it's hard to get yourself in (too much) trouble. Even though it's currently set up for the track, it would also make a fun street car. Everything works - AC blows cold, Blaupunkt stereo, electric sunroof, electric antenna, rear wiper, etc. The former owners kept unbelievably meticulous records, and I have a file of all services going back to the original bill of sale from Northland Porsche+Audi in Cincinnati.

The car is mechanically excellent, but cosmetically fair. It's been a track car for a good portion of its life, and its got a few scars. The paint is fair, and there are numerous chips and blemishes. There is brake dust staining on the wheels and lower body. The hood struts are weak, there is some minor cracking of the dash above the instrument binnacle. The 944 emblem on the front bumper is long gone. The interior is clean, but well worn. Markings have worn off much of the switchgear.

The 944 is a lot of fun for reasonable money. The reality is that I've had two kids since the time I bought the car, and I have much less opportunity to use it. I feel it should go to someone else who would be willing to enjoy it.

Porsche calls in The Committee for Boxster and Cayman GTS

Thu, 20 Mar 2014

Porsche is set to offer up the very first GTS variants of its more affordable Boxster convertibles and Cayman coupes. This is very good news for enthusiasts. Aside from our original post announcing the hotted up models, though, Porsche hasn't given us much to go on.
And you know what? This video isn't much of help either. It's called The Committee, and we're guessing it's meant to highlight the lengths that Porsche went to in designing what are essentially sportier trim levels for its two most affordable entries. Still, it's a stylized and entertaining video with a few entertaining driving scenes scattered throughout, and it gives just a small glimpse of Porsche's view of the vaunted GTS badge.
Take a look below for the full video.

Porsche acquires Kyalami race track at auction

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

With more victories under its belt than any other manufacturer, you could say, in a figurative sense at least, that Porsche owns countless numbers of race tracks around the world. But here we're not talking about figuratively owning a track - we're talking about literally buying one. And Porsche has just bought Kyalami.
Kylamai, for those unfamiliar, is a grand prix circuit near Johannesburg in South Africa. Between 1967 and 1985, and again in '92 and '93, it was home to the South African Grand Prix, and has since hosted a variety of local and lower-level international races, but apparently fell on hard times. As a result, the track's owners - listed as Universal Property Professionals - put it up for auction. Bidders had to deposit four million Rand (about $380k) to participate, but after just 50 seconds, the auction was over.
The winning bid was placed - via telephone from the local press launch for the Macan - by Porsche South Africa CEO Toby Venter, who bid a reported 205 million rand (about $19.5 million) to take over the complex. The German automaker's South African division reportedly intends to keep the track open for racing, but could also be expected to use the facility for testing, customer track days and such moving forward.

Former Porsche boss Wiedeking won't face criminal charges over VW bid

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Hedge fund managers have been suing Porsche for years now, alleging that the car company lied about its intentions during its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen, a gambit that caused them billion in losses. Over the same period, authorities in Stuttgart built a criminal case against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above, left) and Chief Financial Officer Holger Härter (right), filing charges in December 2012. When those fund plaintiffs lost their most recent court case, one of the dimming lights in the dark and receding tunnel was that the criminal investigation might unearth more evidence about Porsche's actions that could help the plaintiffs in pending litigation.
Bloomberg reports that another light has gone out, though, with a Stuttgart court dismissing the market manipulation case before going to trial because, as a court spokesperson said, "there wasn't enough evidence backing up the charges." When prosecutors get the files back from the court, they have a week to decide to refile, but unless they've been sandbagging evidence that could bolster the case, the only lights at the end of the tunnel will be those welcoming Wiedeking and Härter back to the world of legally unencumbered men.
