You are looking live at a 1982 Porsche 928 in its original splendor. Before the whale tale and body side trim, this is the original body of the 928. A little background: I graduated high school in 1982 and this was my dream car. In 2009 I was looking through Ebay for months and months and finally came across this car. It was at a dealer in Chicago and had been stored for many, many years. I bought it sight unseen for $8,000.00. I had it shipped to Texas and I took it to 911 Enterprises in Dallas. I asked them to look it over and tell me whether it was a keeper and worth fixing. The car was in very solid condition but needed a ton of general maintenance. After they gave me the list, I said, "do it." 4 pages worth of repairs and $10,464.96 later, she came home. New timing belt, new belts, steering column bearings, shifter ball socket, wheel bearings, tie rods, rotors, brakes --you get the picture. The receipts and details are yours. She came home and a year or so later i looked at her and said, "she needs a paint job." So I had her repainted. The doors, hood, windows, etc... were all removed. (see pics). $5,500 later she came home. Now I had a great looking car, with new paint, that turned heads. Only 1 problem. I live in Texas and without A/C you have about 3 months you can drive. So in 2011, I sent her to a 928 specialist in north Dallas (Sean Ratts) and he redid the a/c system. New compressor, blower motor, evaporator core, etc... $3,500.00 later she came home. Once I got her home, no kidding---stinking gas tank began to leak. I drained the tank and let her sit. Why? Well because at the time I had a BMW M3, a vette and a Range Rover. If you own any of those cars you know, they are not cheap to keep.

The mid-engine Porsche backstory
Thu, 09 Oct 2014As an automaker's identity evolves over years, its signature becomes defined by any number of factors - heritage (Mercedes-Benz), image (Lamborghini), or market share (Toyota). In the case of Porsche, it was an engineering quirk that forged the German company's most enduring character trait.
Porsche would not have survived - let alone, thrived - in today's saturated landscape had it not been for the 911, and that slope-tailed sports car wouldn't have sprung to life without its predecessor, the 356. While phenomenal success of those rear-engine icons built the company, forays into the mid-engine configuration have played a significant part in establishing the brand's identity.

Porsche Macan sales may push brand past 200K unit goal early
Tue, 13 Aug 2013In late 2010, Volkswagen announced that it would spend the equivalent of $71 billion through 2015 to beef up its product lineup, determined to overtake Toyota in overall sales and profitability by 2018. Each of VW's many brands, in turn, would play its part contributing to a goal of 10 million sales per year. VW-owned Porsche was expected to sell 200,000 vehicles per year by 2018, but with the imminent arrival of the Macan small sport utility vehicle in 2014, the automaker is poised to meet that goal years ahead of schedule, Automotive News reports.
Porsche sold 143,096 cars in 2012, and IHS Automotive predicts Porsche will sell 63,000 Macans in 2014, according to Automotive News, which would make it the brand's best-selling vehicle. Do the math and you can see how Porsche could easily beat original expectations ahead of schedule. But Porsche's sales and marketing boss Bernhard Maier says not so fast: "We will not offer [63,000 Macans] in 2014 as we will still be ramping up production and introducing models top down," he told Automotive News Europe. Whether Porsche surpasses the 200,000 mark early or not, he said, the company will not set a new sales target and will remain committed to its business model.
The Macan shares its architecture with the Audi Q5, but Porsche will be able to charge more for its SUV. Tim Urquhart, a senior analyst at IHS Autmotive, told Automotive News that Porsche can charge 10 to 20 percent more, for what is basically the same SUV, than other VW Group brands. How's that for brand value?
Porsche ready to pick itself up after Le Mans failure
Mon, 23 Jun 2014It's safe to say that things for Porsche didn't go quite as well at Le Mans this year as it might have hoped. After a sixteen-year gap, the winningest manufacturer in endurance racing history returned to the Circuit de la Sarthe this year hoping maybe not for outright victory in its first time back, but definitely a strong finish on which it could build on for next year. All the while it undoubtedly hoped its 911s would hold their own in the GT classes.
Unfortunately for Porsche, neither happened. After racing around the clock, and despite actually leading the festivities for some time, the best its 919 Hybrid could manage was an eleventh-place finish, lagging lamentably behind not only the other LMP1s (like the race-winning Audi) but also a handful of LMP2s. Meanwhile the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am titles went to the factory-backed teams of its arch-rivals Ferrari and Aston Martin, respectively.
Not a stellar result, in other words, but Porsche is taking it all in stride - accepting that it has a ways to go while congratulating its vanquishing rivals in the video below. It's good sportsmanship if we've ever seen it. Next year's race starts now.
