This is a very rare and desirable 1986.5 Porsche 928S. The reason it is rare and desirable is that  in 1986, revised suspension settings, larger brakes with 4-piston calipers and modified exhaust was installed on the 928S, marking the final changes to old body style cars. These were straight from the 928S4, which was slated to debut a few months later (starting as a 1987 model). These changes came starting from VIN 1001, which means that the first thousand '86's had the old brakes, but later cars had the later systems. This later 1986 model is referred to as a 1986.5 because of these changes.   This special mid-year had many of the S4 performance and mechanical updates without the extra weight. This means it also has the better'85-86 engine, lighter gross weight (compared to the S4), and the start-in-first-gear auto transmission valve-body. All around, it's the superior and rare car.

Options : Air Conditioning, Alarm System, Cruise Control, Foglamps, Intermittent Wipers, Leather Seats, Power Brakes, Power Door Locks, Power Steering, Power Windows, Sunroof and probably more.

I bought the car a year ago from a collector in Maine but I am downsizing my collection so selling this one without really doing too much to it other than title it under my name, have my mechanic top the fluids, and reviewing it visually. Carfax is clean. No accident history. The car is sold AS IS WHERE IS.  You should come and inspect it if you are local and if not, have someone do it for you.   I don't know anything about its history and very little about its current condition other than what I can see as described below:

The cars runs and drives but needs some work. I had the fluids toped but it did not go through a comprehensive mechanical checkup. you will have to do it yourself. seats are in mint condition, few cracks in the dash, door panels and rest of interior are great for the age, most gauges and electrics work, but I did not check every single one of them. Exterior looks complete and good, no visible rust. Several scratches but nothing deep. probably most will be buffed with good detail. part of the front lip seems to be missing. The wheels and tires are good but tires are old.

Consider it as a car that needs work to make it a daily driver. I do not have time and energy to do it. again, sold AS IS WHERE IS.

Porsche in Paul Walker fatal accident was traveling over 100 mph before crash

Fri, 03 Jan 2014

The Porsche Carrera GT involved in the November crash that killed Fast and Furious star Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas was traveling at speeds above 100 miles per hour before Rodas lost control for "unknown reasons," according to a report from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office that has been acquired by The Hollywood Reporter.
Once control was lost, the Porsche spun, hit a curb and then impacted a tree and a light post, then it spun 180 degrees and hit another tree before erupting in flames, the report said. Neither Walker nor Rodas were under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, according to toxicology reports conducted by the coroner.
As for the future of the Fast and Furious franchise, a separate by The Hollywood Reporter claims director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal Studios will move forward with the seventh installment in the franchise, which was only partially completed when Walker was killed.

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S brings 50 extra ponies to Detroit

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Porsche has announced a new version of its popular SUV today at the Detroit Auto Show: the 550-horsepower 2014 Cayenne Turbo S.
This newly minted "flagship" of the Cayenne lineup is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 engine, and offers 50 hp more than the Cayenne Turbo. Performance figures are impressive for the sleek utility vehicle: 0-60 miles per hour can be dashed off in 4.3 seconds, while maximum speed is rated at 175 mph. The Turbo S also gets dynamic chassis control, torque vectoring and Porsche's Sport Chrono package - all standard equipment.
Visually the Cayenne Turbo S differentiates itself from the lesser models in pretty subtle ways. Gloss black trim decorates the gawping front air intakes, as well as rear-view mirror trim panel. The SUV also wears 21-inch Turbo II wheels, a la the 911 Turbo.

Porsche would have entered F1 if Audi had blocked its Le Mans program

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Go back a few years and you may have heard rumors of Porsche heading into Formula One. That never came to pass - or at least, it hasn't yet - but that doesn't mean that it wasn't close to happening. That's how committed to returning to top-level motorsport competition Porsche has become recently.
Autosport reports that just as Porsche was merging fully into the Volkswagen Group, Zuffenhausen was weighing its options for a factory racing program. Le Mans was its favorite, which makes sense, as it remains far and away the most successful constructor in the history of the famous endurance race. But the strategists at Porsche were worried that its new corporate overlords at Volkswagen wouldn't support two LMP1 programs and would favor Audi, which has positively dominated the modern era of endurance racing, coming second only to Porsche in the number of Le Mans victories it has scored to date.
Porsche's Plan B was reportedly to head into Formula One, although it isn't clear if the German automaker was intent on starting its own team, buying an existing one or merely providing engines to other teams. Porsche fielded its own cars in F1 in the late 1950s and early 60s, and returned as an engine supplier with TAG to power McLaren in the 1980s, powering Niki Lauda and Alain Prost to the World Championship in 1984 and 1985.
