I have owned this 924 for around 4 years, and bought it as a project to fix up and drive on weekends for fun. I am selling it because I have medical issues that prevent me from further working on the car. The car gets compliments, looks good for its age, and is fun to drive. It's not the fastest car, and it's an automatic, so it's better suited for Sunday drives than the racetrack. It does handle corners well, however. The paint is faded and the clear coat is wearing off on the roof, but is not noticeable until you are close to the car. There is one area of rust in front of the passenger side door. This is a list of some of the things that have been done to the car since I have owned it:

New front brakes and calipers
New muffler and exhaust work
Aftermarket stereo with Alpine, MB Quart, and JL Audio components.
Custom sub box replacing rear seat (the back seats in these cars is really a joke)
New (refurbished) Alternator
New (refurbished) Starter
New fuel pump.

The car had new tires on it when I bought it and they are still pretty new. It has had the engine replaced (by previous owner) with an engine from a like year and model. The car was maintained well by the previous owner and engine work was done by a professional shop. I have had the brake and exhaust work done at reputable local shops. I have stored the car in a garage during winters. I haven't been able to drive or work on it due to health issues and it has recently been taken out of storage after sitting for a year. I had a mechanic check the brakes and the fronts are still new and the rears have been adjusted. It runs well. The only issue is that the aftermarket alarm (installed by a local shop) is not functioning correctly. The immobilizer circuit isn't functioning correctly and has been bypassed. The rest of the alarm is still connected and either needs to be repaired or removed. I have driven the car over the last couple weeks a number of times up to 30 miles at a time and it runs fine, but with the alarm installed and not working correctly, sometimes you have to disable the alarm numerous times before it will start. For this reason I wouldn't attempt to drive the car regularly until the alarm issue is sorted out. If you intend to drive the car home, I would at least have someone in another car follow you home.

A great resource for 924 owners is: http://www.924.org/
A Haynes manual and wiring diagram for the alarm will be included along with whatever paperwork I have on the service history.

A couple things that should be mentioned:
*The vacuum accumulator for the EGR valve is leaking so it has been bypassed. This does not affect how the car runs, but if you need to pass an emissions test, you may want to repair the leak.
*There is a push button installed to manually activate the cold start valve/injector. Sometimes this injector shuts off before the car has warmed up and you may need to activate the circuit if you plan to use the car in cold weather. I have not had to use it, but have before it was installed had to wait the 15-20 minutes for the valve thermostat to reset before I could start the car. The switch just bypasses the thermostat and activates the injector.
*In heavy rain, the seal to the sunroof will leak if parked on an incline. It doesn't seem to pool when the car is level.

McQueen's Porsche 917 from Le Mans races to the auction block

Mon, 23 Jun 2014

Steve McQueen may have been the headline actor of the motorsport cult classic film Le Mans, but we all know who the real star was. Or rather, what: the Porsche 917. More specifically, it was the Gulf-liveried #22 - not McQueen's #21 - that won the race, making it one of the most iconic cars ever to drive across the silver screen. And now it's going up for auction.
This 1969 Porsche 917K, chassis 917-024, has a storied history both on and off the screen, even if it didn't win any (off-screen) races of note. This example was the first 917 to be campaigned in an actual race when Porsche handed it to Jo Siffert to drive against the Ferrari 312P and Ford GT40 at the Spa-Francorchamps 1000 Km race in 1969. Siffert found the early example too unstable and ultimately drove an earlier 908 to the checkered flag, but after 917-024 set the fastest time at the following year's Le Mans test day, Siffert acquired it outright.
The Swiss racing driver loaned the car to Solar Productions for use in the film, after which it returned to Siffert's collection until he was killed in an F1 exposition race at Brands Hatch in 1971. In a testament to how much he loved the car, it was 917-024 that lead the funeral procession. The car subsequently fell off the radar until it resurfaced in 2001 as one of the greatest barn finds of the new millennium. Now fully restored and resplendent in its original baby blue and orange, 917-024 is headed to the auction block at Pebble Beach where you can be sure that Gooding & Company will bring in a suitably high price for arguably the most iconic example of one of the most iconic Porsches of all time.

Porsche considering X6-style Cayenne coupe

Mon, 05 May 2014

It was practically unthinkable when Porsche introduced the Cayenne in 2002. An SUV... from Porsche? Purists balked, but customers flocked, and the Cayenne propelled the its holding company into such profitability that it practically took over the entire Volkswagen Group. It's now been twelve years since the original Cayenne arrived as the first production Porsche with more than two doors, and Zuffenhausen has since followed up with the Panamera, the Macan and the second-generation Cayenne. But it isn't about to stop there.
The latest intel coming in from overseas suggests that Porsche is in the advanced stages of designing a slant-back, five-door Cayenne coupe to take on the likes of the BMW X6 and upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC. Though the business case (however solid BMW may have already demonstrated it to be) is still being considered, if approved it would join the upcoming third-generation Cayenne on the production line in Leipzig as early as 2018 - a year after the new Cayenne itself is expected to arrive.
The Cayenne coupe would share much with the more conventional MkIII Cayenne (and for that matter the next Audi Q7 and VW Touareg as well as the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Falcon) but differentiate itself with a more stylish (if less practical) roofline and an altogether sportier attitude. Autocar reports that the design calls for tauter sheetmetal and sportier cabin inspired by the 918 Spyder. Pricing would be positioned a good 15-20 percent higher than the regular Cayenne, and the "coupe" version would likely be offered with most, if not all of the engines available in the conventional version - including gasoline, diesel, turbo and possibly even hybrid options ranging all the way up to the 550-horsepower Turbo S.

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S brings 50 extra ponies to Detroit

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Porsche has announced a new version of its popular SUV today at the Detroit Auto Show: the 550-horsepower 2014 Cayenne Turbo S.
This newly minted "flagship" of the Cayenne lineup is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 engine, and offers 50 hp more than the Cayenne Turbo. Performance figures are impressive for the sleek utility vehicle: 0-60 miles per hour can be dashed off in 4.3 seconds, while maximum speed is rated at 175 mph. The Turbo S also gets dynamic chassis control, torque vectoring and Porsche's Sport Chrono package - all standard equipment.
Visually the Cayenne Turbo S differentiates itself from the lesser models in pretty subtle ways. Gloss black trim decorates the gawping front air intakes, as well as rear-view mirror trim panel. The SUV also wears 21-inch Turbo II wheels, a la the 911 Turbo.
