I am selling my baby.  I purchased this car in 2006 as a 1.8L four that had been restored.  Over the last seven years, I have rebuilt the gearbox, and installed a completely rebuilt 2.7 (crank up) that was done right. The case was machined by G2 racing in Michigan and brought back to new tolerances--NO 2.7 related issues.  Case decked, inserted, and properly cleaned.  Euro Pistons matched with "E" grind camshafts from Dougherty Racing and Webers completely redone including new throttle shaft bushings and throttle plates. I haven't dynoed it, but the build sheet shows well (like 220hp) in excess of 200 horses in this mid-engined rocket.  I chose a 16 quart front-mounted oil tank that feeds the engine through a -20 braided oil supply with -16 returns.  911 front suspension with highly desirable aluminum "S" calipers and true 5-bolt hubs.  Wheels are *OEM* Carrera Cup II wheels (not fakes) and are stupid-light.  17x7 up front at 17x9 in the rear.  100mm Studs with spacers are track ready.  I have run wheels as big as 18x10 and 18x8 (late offset) with no rubbing issues.  This car is scary fast, and sounds wicked through the stainless steel Monty exhaust.  Please bookmark this auction as I will have better outdoor pictures under natural light and a startup and driving video available. Hellhole is good.  There is a small area of rot in the right rear longitudinal that is not showing signs of any structural issues.  It should be repaired eventually, tho.  More details to follow.

AUCTION TERMS: Please read and re-read thoroughly.  Please do not bid on this car until you are sure that you want it--all bids will be considered a binding contract. I will not take the "my wife flipped out" excuse--ask first!  You are more than welcome to request any and all pictures, videos, etc. that you want of the car--I will do my best to accommodate.  Same thing for a pre-purchase--get it done before the auction is over.  I will take it to my guy (Moorespeed in Austin TX for a PP) or wherever you like as long as you pay, and they are familiar with air cooled Porsches.  You are welcome to go for a test drive if in the Austin, TX area or just come by to check it out. NO FOREIGN BIDDERS without prior approval.  All bidders with less than 15 feedbacks will need to contact me prior to bidding.  I will do my best to describe everything accurately and fairly, but understand that you are buying a 38 year old sports car, not a 2013 Ferrari.  Again, ask any and all questions PRIOR to bidding, as all sales are final.  AS-IS and where is.  $2000 deposit due at auction close, balance in 7 days.  $100/day storage after two weeks.  Sorry to be so strict, but I've been burned before.   I have 15 years of positive feedback on Ebay.

2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid is one mean green machine

Sat, 20 Apr 2013

The entire Porsche Panamera lineup gets a refresh for the 2014 model year, and new additions to the range include two long-wheelbase models and this E-Hybrid fuel-sipper that makes its debut here at the Shanghai Motor Show. And, well, we say "fuel-sipper lightly."
Porsche has packed its hybrid Panamera with 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque, and that certainly makes for one quick sedan-hatchback-thing. Hitting 60 miles per hour will reportedly take just 5.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 167 mph. And while Porsche hasn't revealed specific powertrain details, the company says that the S E-Hybrid "improves upon the concept offered by the previous Panamera S Hybrid with a more powerful electric motor," which leads us to believe that the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine at the heart of it all still remains intact.
Fuel economy numbers (or estimates) have not been released as of this writing, but we expect to have that information closer to the car's on-sale date later this year. As for the new battery system, Porsche says that when plugged into a 240-volt charging station, it can be fully charged in just two and a half hours. When topped off, the Panamera S E-Hybrid should have an electric driving range of around 20 miles at speeds up to 84 mph, though, obviously, not at the same time.

McLaren P1 vs Porsche 918 vs Ducati 1199 Superleggera in epic standing-mile drag race

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

We live in a high-tech supercar renaissance, with the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari all duking it out for performance supremacy. All three members of this power trio place the engine behind the driver and use some kind of hybrid assist. However, each one finds a slightly different way to make that setup work. While all of the tech is insanely cool, let's just admit that we are all really wondering which one is the quickest and which is the fastest. Autocar aims to find out in a new video pitting two of them against a surprise challenger in the standing mile.
Unfortunately, the race is missing the Ferrari, despite Autocar's best efforts. So instead, it has another limited-edition, high-performance vehicle from Italy in the form of the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. The bike has just two cylinders, but at 1.2-liters of displacement, it makes over 200 horsepower, and all that gumption is packaged into a magnesium monocoque body with carbon fiber bodywork to keep weight low. Granted, the cycle is going up against the 875-hp Porsche and 903-hp McLaren, but traction, aerodynamics and gearing all play a part in this fascinating video.
There's no sense in ruining the winner before watching, but Autocar teases that the finish is one of its closest drag races ever. Check out the video to find out just what that means.

Porsche forum claims eco-friendly 911 Blu coming to Frankfurt

Thu, 01 Aug 2013

The fiftieth anniversary of the Porsche 911 has been a nearly year-long affair, with unique tributes and even a special anniversary edition with plenty of retro throwbacks. The party is expected to continue through the end of 2013, and if one 911 enthusiast forum is right, we'll see yet another special edition model near the anniversary of the original car's September 1963 debut, when it arrives at next month's Frankfurt Auto Show.
It's called the 911 Blu, and where the 911 50 Years Edition was more expensive than a 911 Carrera S hardtop, the Blu would be an entry level special edition. That's right, a limited run car that actually slots in at the very bottom of the 911 range. According to Porsche forum 911UK.com, the new car would be priced at 74,600 euros ($98,718 at today's rates) or 64,750 pounds. That undercuts the price of a base 911 in Germany by nearly 16,000 euros and in the UK by nearly 8700 pounds (although to be fair, it's roughly identical to the price of a base 911 C2S in the US).
This 911 will reportedly feature a detuned flat-six with 300 horsepower and 211 pound-feet of torque.
