I’m about through downsizing my collection and have saved the best for last.

I bought this red 1972 Porsche 914 from California and, like many cars from the West coast, is rust free. Although its body condition makes it a rarity in itself; that is not what makes this car unique. What adds tremendous value is the engine… a 1965 date coded 911 engine that is in excellent running condition.

Like all air cooled Porsches, 914’s are rising in value and this car is a great one to have. With this car you get not only the 914 looks and handling you also get an engine that is worth possibly as much as the car itself. Let me list the attributes of this excellent machine. First of all, this car was won “1st Place People’s Choice Modified 914” at Okteenerfest 2013. The car was driven from SC to TN and back that weekend with no issues and all while achieving close to 30 mpg. I have attached pictures from my drives on the Tail of the Dragon!

Body:

  • Very straight body with original panels and a pretty nice quality repaint in the original Bahia Red. A few small chips here and there consistent with occasional road use. The paint is very presentable

  • Absolutely solid and rust free hellhole, front and rear trunks, floor pans, sills, jacking points, etc.

  • Targa panel painted body color

  • Body colored mirror (attached to quarter glass…no holes drilled in doors). I also have a matching mirror for the passenger side that I have not attached

  • Excellent chrome bumpers

Interior:

  • Fairly new gray carpets and matching upholstery. Not factory original but look very nice and is comfortable. One small tear in drivers seat. See picture.

  • Solid dash with one small crack. I keep a dash cover on it.

  • Door panels are in nice shape as is back pad and door cards

  • Momo leather steering wheel and Momo shift knob

Electrical:

  • Everything works including hazard lights, seat belt light, horn, fog lights, etc.

  • Factory fog lights. One lens has a crack that occurred last year on my drive to Okteenerfest

  • Custom triple gauge with oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel gauge. Also has low oil pressure light, alternator light and parking brake light

  • Restored 911 tachometer (Restored by North Hollywood Speedometer)

  • Brand new Alpine stereo (satellite/CD/AM/FM/MP3, etc…) with brand new Infinity speakers in factory speaker pods

  • Brand new power antenna with switch. I installed a switch so I can control when it raises and lowers. You only need an antenna for AM/FM so why have it up in the air when you don’t need it?

  • Battery relocated to front trunk

  • Battery Switch in engine bay

  • Alarm system

Suspension: This car handles exceptionally well! I’ve owned approximately 10 914’s and this one handles better than all of them

  • 21mm torsion bars (upgraded from stock 18mm)

  • 180 lb springs

  • Rebuilt front brake calipers from PMB Performance

  • Stainless steel flex lines

  • New (last year) Falken tires

  • Customized wheels with machined hub caps (check the photos)

Engine: Okay…here is the money shot….the differentiator…the reason this car is unique

  • Completely rebuilt '65 911 2 liter engine with 2.2E pistons and cylinders.
  • Serial number 901561 (65 serial numbers are from 900361 to 903550)
  • Electric fuel pump
  • Bursch performance headers
  • Dual triple Webers rebuilt by Starr Cooke
  • Engine pulled and resealed by Bob Woodman of Beaufort, SC
  • Factory 914/6 oil tank and engine mount
  • New oil hoses
  • Correct 914/6 factory throttle linkage and clutch cable bracket
  • Excellent running engine. Good oil pressure and oil temperature
  • Nice shifting 901 transmission
  • New heavy duty clutch. pressure plate, and throw out bearing

The Bad: No heat. Because the car has a Burch exhaust system there is no provision for having heat. Of course, that should be an issue for 90% of the people looking at the car since this car should be used on those days when you can take the top off and ride through twisty roads!!

The Previous Owner created a website documenting the work he performed on this car. See the link below:

In summary, this is a 914 in excellent condition that can be driven across the country as it sits…seriously. The engine is a genuine 1965 engine.  I was offered a large (IMHO) sum of money for the engine over a year ago. With engine prices continuing to rise the engine value has to have only increased since then.

I am also open to an engine swap. I will accept a proven and running 911 engine (2.7, 3.0, etc.) plus cash for this engine.

No warranty expressed or implied. Buyer pays shipping (I will work with overseas buyers). Payment via cash, wire, or check with plenty of time to clear before you get the car.

This FL man accused of stealing drivers licenses has best tattoo ever

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Bentley and Porsche are two of the jewels in Volkswagen Group's luxury brand crown, but in Florida they also have a very tenuous connection with crime. With his multiple face and neck tattoos, including a Bentley logo right between his eyes, Derek Denesevich (pictured above) has been charged with the surprising crime of alleged identity theft. He recently surrendered to a Florida court, and could face seven years in prison, if convicted.
You might wonder where Porsche fits into this. According to the Sun Sentinel, Denesevich's accomplice was one Porscha Kyles, who worked for the Broward Clerk of Courts. She allegedly used her access to driver's license records to steal information and sell it to Denesevich. He is then accused of filing fraudulent income taxes to recoup the refund checks.
According to the Sentinel, Kyles has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy and identity theft and was sentenced to three years and one day in prison. The duo reportedly stole over 100 identities and made at least $120,000. Scroll down for a video about this pair of auto-related criminals.

Porsche 911 Targa Turbo for Geneva debunked, 919 Hybrid and 911 RSR racers coming instead

Fri, 28 Feb 2014

Porsche has proven adept at making sure there is a version of its venerable 911 for practically any wealthy driver's desires. If you just want a great all-rounder then buy a standard 911; open-air driving, then the Cabriolet is for you, and if you need a compromise between them, there is even the new 911 Targa.
Gossip earlier this week surfaced on various websites that at next week's Geneva Motor Show, Porsche had designs on introducing an even higher-performance Targa variant, a Targa Turbo. The rumored mashup would combine the wide body from the 911 Turbo with the super-complicated power roof from the Targa (see right). Assuming no changes in power, that would mean 520 horsepower or even 560 hp in a Targa Turbo S model. Unfortunately, we're hearing that this tasty bit of scuttlebutt is incorrect. Autoblog asked Nick Twork, Porsche North America Product Communications Manager, about the rumor, and his response couldn't have been clearer: "Totally false."
Twork did elaborate that company will be "debuting the Porsche 919 Hybrid, our new LMP1 race car" at the Swiss show, and Stuttgart has also announced this morning that will show its 911 RSR racecar, too - either of which we reckon is a lot more exciting than another Targa variant.

Porsche becomes first company to rent out Vatican's Sistine Chapel

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

We wouldn't go so far as to say God is a Porsche fan, but those in charge of one of the holiest Christian spots on our little blue marble are welcoming the German automaker into one of the religion's most revered and beautiful settings - the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. In so doing, Porsche will reportedly become the first company to rent out the holy hall for a corporate function.
Now, it's not like Pope Francis has signed off on Porsche doing do donuts in a 911 underneath Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam. Instead, the Vatican has rented out the home of the Papal Conclave to the Porsche Travel Club, which will host a classical music concert. The Travel Club organizes events and tours across Europe for Porsche enthusiasts, with the Vatican concert just one part of a tour of Rome.
According to Automotive News Europe, Porsche will sell 40 tickets - at 5,000 euros each ($6,379) - to the event, while the Vatican has confirmed that the Pope will not be in attendance.
