Beautiful, perfect Turbo Coupe with Porsche Certified Warranty until 5/52015 or 100,000 miles!  GT Silver Metallic exterior and black full leather interior with Dynamic Sports Seats Option and center console painted exterior color option.  Stunning!  Includes two very cool aftermarket options-- Porsche Factory 997 Sport Classic Wheels with 3-color crests, 8.5" front & 11.5" rear running Michelin Sport Pilot PS2 N2 tires.  These are the genuine "Fuchs" Porsche wheels as featured on the Carrera Sport Classic-- none look nicer in my opinion.  They cost $5695 and I have the original receipt.  The other aftermarket option on the car is the SpeedArt all black leather steering wheel with airbag, silver paddles, silver horns and silver MUFU buttons.  Hand made by SpeedArt in Germany and cost $2760 and I have original receipt.  I also have the original "Turbo 5 split spoke" wheels and near new tires, and the original multi-function steering wheel in boxes and will include them in the sale.  The car has the 3M protective bra and Sirius radio which was retrofitted with a concealed antenna, but integrates perfectly with the factory sound system.  This was purchased from NAV-TV and I have original receipts.  The car is absolutely perfect and comes with the transferrable Porsche Certified Warranty until 5/52015 or 100,000 miles.  The only bugaboo that might come up in the Carfax report is "body part replaced" which was the little bumperette to the left of the rear license plate which happened when a driver just barely bumped the car and made a tiny imprint of their license plate screw in the bumperette which I had replaced.  This Turbo Coupe has always been garaged and even parked under a carport at my office.  Never tracked or raced and detailed often.  The SpeedArt wheel with the shift paddles makes the Tiptronic come alive.  This generation of Tiptronic they really got right, it blips the throttle on downshifts and delivers 0-60 times significantly faster than the manual.

Porsche undecided on new 911 GT2 [w/poll]

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

Fans of hardcore 911s had it pretty good with the last 997 generation. There was the GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2 and GT2 RS (pictured above). Each one was faster, more powerful and more expensive than the one below it, but what they all shared was what Porsche purists love most: rear engine, rear drive, a manual transmission and little else.
So far with the new 991, Porsche has only released a GT3 version. Sure, there have been other models, but they're all decidedly more luxurious and less performance-focused. And as impressive a machine as the new GT3 is, it has run the risk of alienating some of its most ardent fanatics with technological interference in the form of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel steering. So what those purists have really been looking forward to is a more hardcore GT3 RS or new GT2. But those may not be coming so quickly.
Speaking with 911 project chief August Achleitner, Car and Driver reports that a new GT2 is anything but a foregone conclusion. The reasons may be partially political, but could be technical in nature as well: with 560 horsepower driving all four wheels, the new 911 Turbo S runs the 0-60 in less than three seconds. Give it more power but less traction, as Porsche has done with past GT2s, and you may not end up seeing an actual improvement in performance. A GT2 that's slower than the Turbo S would be difficult to explain.

2014 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet spotted testing in the nude

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

The Porsche 911 wouldn't be the Porsche 911 unless there were twenty-something different models to choose from (note: we are not complaining), and the latest one was just spied by our trusty photographers out on Germany's Nürburgring. Feast your eyes on the 911 Turbo Cabriolet - the droptop version of the new Turbo wonder that debuted in May - looking all sorts of stealth in its black-on-black-on-black prototype scheme.
Mechanically, the 911 Turbo Cab should be identical to the fixed-roof version, meaning a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine will live in the car's rump, putting out something like 520 horsepower. Of course, there's also the hotter Turbo S version of the coupe, and we expect that to get the droptop treatment, as well, with 560 horsepower on tap. The added weight of the folding top and additional structural supports will likely make for slightly slower 0-60 times for both cars, though considering the base Turbo will hit 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, "slower" is a very relative term indeed. All that force will run to the ground via all-wheel drive, managed by Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.
The wide stance of the 911 Turbo Coupe carries over to the Cabriolet, no doubt fitted with the same (standard) 20-inch wheels. Inside, the usual luxury amenities will be on hand, along with nearly endless customization options.

Porsche 959 Prototype started it all

Wed, 11 Sep 2013

While Porsche was unveiling the new Nürburgring-dominating 918 Spyder downstairs in Hall 3 here at the Frankfurt Messe, there was another Porsche supercar quietly and discretely on display upstairs in the same hall. That, of course, was the 959. But not just any 959: this was the original Gruppe B prototype.
The 959 was first developed as a rally car in the early 80s to compete with the likes of the original Audi Sport Quattro S1, Ford RS200 and Lancia Delta S4. But Zuffenhausen soon saw its potential as a production road-going supercar, emerging as a technological marvel to challenge the decidedly linear approach of the Ferrari F40. It still stands as a groundbreaking supercar in its own right, but also lead to the first all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo and set the stage for the Carrera GT and aforementioned 918 Spyder that followed to cap the top of the evolving Porsche range.
This original Gruppe B prototype, which presaged the production 959, packed a 450-horsepower 2.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six into an even sleeker form than the final version that followed. We caught up with it on display as part of a display of 80s German classics, of which this 959 prototype immediately stood out as the pick of the proverbial litter. Check out the hotness in the high-resolution image gallery above.
