For Sale is my 2001 Porsche 911 Cabriolet. This car is my daily driver and for an 11 year old car still looks sharp!!!

The Porsche 996 chassis is known to have issues with the intermediate shaft failing. Although, this was more prevalent in the earlier 996's it did happen later as well. Unfortunately, my car became victim to the IMS failure and required a full engine overhaul at 86K miles. The overhaul included the following and also included the upgraded IMS. For anyone buying a 996, I would recommend, if the IMS has not been upgraded by the manufacturer to consider the $1000 upgrade to mitigate any worries about the IMS failing. One less issue to worry about with this car.

Overhaul was completed on 3/22/2011 by UFO Motorsports Porsche Specialist in California. The engine installation was performed by Reeves Porsche in Tampa.

The rebuild cost $8,539.81 not including the install which including the initial troubleshooting of $2,921.50.
Parts replaced:
New Main Bearing
New rod bearings
New Intermediate shaft bearing
New rings
New rod bolts
New gasket kit and new head gaskets
New water pump
New seperator
New belt
2 new cam rail kits
New tensioner rail pad
New Spark Plugs
New updated RMS
Service Heads new valve guide seals
inspected crankshaft and heads for cracks
Inspected crankshaft and craddle for wear
Rods
Replaced Crankshaft
New upgraded IPD Plenum (enhanced performance)
Clutch replaced

Engine has approximately 20K miles since overhaul and runs great. No leaks whatsoever. Chassis has 106K on odometer

Other upgrades include:
Headers
Quad tips $400
ECU software upgrade by REVO installed by Reeves MotorSprots in Tampa $993
K&N air intake upgrade $399
2008 OEM Porsche Wheel upgrade $2000
Stereo Upgrade - $1475
JL A6450 6 channel amplifier
JL audio 6W3 subwoofer
Hertz Hi-energy 6" speaker components
Tinted Windows
Optional Black Hard Top (manual installation), retract softtop and mounts in place of.
Carbon Fiber stick shift (6 speed manual)
Tires 80-90% tread remaining
12/27/2012 convertible top motor replacement - $1500

Cons:
Passenger seat has tears - can be re-upholstered (purchased seats as upgrades on ebay but did not install immediately. Realized later that the passenger side had water damage and leather was very brittle. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that when I first purchased them. The seats cost me $800 with shipping.
Washer fluid has a leak (warning light indicator will stay on). Fluid container will need to be replaced.
Check engine light will stay on because of air intake upgrade. Common issue when upgrading the air intake. Check engine light can be reset, but usually after a week or so it will come back on.
Front bumper has nicks from road particles/debris. Most of my driving is interstate driving.

Car is a great car to drive and lots of fun. Handles beautifully as expected from Porsche. I have been on the fence about selling it, but I have decided to get into a newer 911 and unfortunately can't keep two cars.

Please, I will only consider serious inquiries. No joy rides.

I can be reached at 727-421-9280 - usually late afternoon is best to see the vehicle. The vehicle is located in St. Pete Beach, Fl.

PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CAR....

Porsche offers detuned Boxster and Cayman 211 in Europe

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

Looking at a new Porsche Boxster? First of all, we commend you on your choice, because in its latest iteration, the Boxster has sped out from under the shadow of the 911 and into its own. But now to choose: do you get the base model with 265 horsepower, the Boxster S with 315 hp, or the top-of-the-line Boxster GTS with 330 hp? It's a daunting question, considering the $10k+ price gap between each model that you could put into the gas-and-rubber jar. Same goes for the Cayman, albeit with ten more horses across the board. But as if that's not confusing enough, there appears to be another player on the field. (That is, at least, in certain European markets.)
Appearing on the company's Belgian and Norwegian sites are the Boxster 211 and Cayman 211. As you might have guessed, they pack a less substantial 211 horsepower, undercutting what we know as the base models. Instead of using a smaller engine, though, the Boxster and Cayman 211 get the same 2.7-liter boxer six, just with less power.
As a result, they're a bit slower off the line: the Boxster 211 takes between 6.1 and 6.4 seconds to get to 62, depending on exact specifications, compared to the 5.5- to 5.8-second range for the 265-hp Boxster, while the Cayman 211 is quoted at 6.2 seconds versus the 275-hp Cayman's 5.4 to 5.7 seconds. Fuel consumption and emissions, on the other hand (and as you'd expect), are better in the 211. But while Porsche Norway charges around $10k less for the 211 models, Porsche Belgium charges the same for the 211 models as it does for the next most powerful versions (from which they appear to be visually indistinguishable).

2015 Porsche Macan Turbo

Mon, 24 Feb 2014

I knew it was a softball question, but I asked it anyway. It's pretty standard for automakers to offer up some examples of competitors when they invite the media to drive a new vehicle for the first time. If not stated outright, it's just as standard for some journalist to query about the competitive set as soon as the Q&A begins. I knew full well that Porsche believes it has a valuable new niche to itself with the 2015 Macan (and especially with the Macan Turbo), but I wanted to hear the answer to the competitor cars question anyway.
Porsche CEO Matthias Müller didn't hesitate for a second to respond. With a half-smirk appropriate to an executive that is about to launch the (very probably) most profitable and best-selling product in his brand's lineup he chuckled, "Of course, I could be arrogant and say this car has no competitors..."
Arrogant? Well, the grinning Müller certainly didn't give off a humble vibe as he proceeded to count down a list of German and British utility vehicles from various classes that are clearly behind the pace of the Macan in either looks, luxury, or sporting prowess - Range Rover Sport, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK among them.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS facing delay over GT3 fire problems?

Mon, 24 Mar 2014

Porsche has never been afraid to introduce variants of its cars. However, its even higher spec, next-generation 911 GT3 RS may be delayed from its planned launch this summer while the engines in the standard GT3s (pictured above) are replaced.
A delay isn't certain, but executives want to make sure the high-strung mill is no longer a problem before they press forward with another model using it. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport asked Porsche CEO Matthias Müller about pushing back the launch, and he responded that it was too early to say. The company's current focus is making sure the engines get fixed and working on internal measures to prevent this kind of flaw in the future.
When fires claimed two 911 GT3s in Europe, Porsche initially stopped the model's sales and asked owners to stop driving them. It finally diagnosed the blazes as being caused by a loose screw on a connecting rod, which then resulted in crankcase damage and an oil leak. The company is replacing the engines on all 785 affected cars. A source told Autoblog that under 200 customers were actually affected, and the other cars were either at port or dealer lots. Hopefully, the recall doesn't postpone the road-going GT3 RS too far because we want to see what Porsche has up its sleeve.
