Classic Motoring is pleased to offer this very attractive 2001 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2 Cabriolet. This low mileage 911 looks great in Orient Red (L8A3) with Savannah Beige interior, black convertible top and highly desirable matching factory hard top. Original options include:
  • 139/340 Heated Seats
  • 413 18” Turbo Look Wheels
  • 446 Colored Crest center caps
  • 476 PSM Stability Management

This documented two-owner car was purchased by the 2nd owner from a Porsche dealer as a CPO car. Since he passed away the car remained within the same family. It has seen very light use in the last two years, the current keepers taking it on occasional light drives to keep everything working well. The car drives well with no issues - brakes and clutch are strong and the car performs exceptionally well. It is totally stock and has never been modified.

This 996 is in great cosmetic and mechanical condition with nice paint all around and a very clean interior. There has been no accident damage, though the front bumper was professionally resprayed (by a concours restoration shop) to correct some scuffs. The bumper, front decklid and mirrors are protected with clear laminate. Inside, the leather interior is in very good condition. Only a few scratches on the center console and a GPS mount on the dash detract from the otherwise tidy and well-kept cockpit. The convertible top is in excellent condition as is the factory hard top. Wheels, tires and trim are excellent and there are no leaks or drips from the engine. Books/Tools/Manuals included in the sale.

Pluses:

  • Beautiful Orient Red Paint
  • Desirable Factory Hard top
  • 2-family owner car, previously purchased via Porsche CPO program
  • No Winters
  • Clean carfax
  • 6-speed manual gearbox
  • Excellent Continental tires
  • Only 32,861 Miles

Minuses:

  • Light recent use, would benefit from a full fluid service
  • Touched up scratch on rear deck lid
  • Center console compartment latch needs repair
  • Some scuffs in the finish on the center console

Overall this is a very fine #2 condition car that is ready to find a new home. The addition of the hard top makes this a great all-weather GT car ready for you to stack on the miles as you wish. It is currently located in Vermont and will be sold with a current VT registration and title.

Porsche's baby Panamera delayed until 2019 or later

Tue, 15 Jul 2014

If you're enticed by the idea of a Porsche sedan but find the Panamera to be too big, your hopes may have been raised by the development of the so-called Pajun. But don't get those hopes up too much, because the latest word coming in from the Old World has it that the Panamera Junior has been delayed.
The Pajun was (and theoretically still is, despite tardiness) a project to apply to the Panamera the same winning formula that Porsche used to transmute the Cayenne into the smaller Macan. Its size would be closer to the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class than the larger Panamera, and employ an array of six-cylinder engines.
The smaller five-door was set to be the cornerstone of Porsche Product Strategy 2018, a plan that included several new models to be launched within the next four years. However, reports now indicate that the Volkswagen Group is counting on Porsche to help bolster its profits and is not keen on investing in new products at this time, pushing the Pajun and other projects back until 2019 at the earliest. Although much of the strategy remains undisclosed, it is believed to include (or have included) a sub-Boxster sports car and a supercar to slot in between the 911 and the 918 Spyder. There was also talk of a shooting brake version of the Panamera based on the Sport Turismo concept pictured above. What will become of those projects, however, remains to be seen.

LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and Agera R take to Assen

Tue, 10 Jun 2014

It's the show-down (sort of) we've all been waiting for. The battle of the hybrid hypercars from the performance powerhouses of Europe: Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder. No one publication has managed to get their hands on all three just yet, but this video has - and with a Koenigsegg Agera R thrown in for good measure.
The video was shot by our (unrelated) Dutch compatriots at Autoblog.nl at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands. The track has played host to Champ Cars and all manner of racing bikes, but this could be the ultimate grid of actual production machinery that's ever lined up behind its start/finish line. Shame the weather was rainy and this unsurpassed array of supercars weren't really racing - more showing off for the crowds. But what a show it was. Scope out the footage in the video below.

Jay Leno plugs himself into Porsche's 918 Spyder

Mon, 24 Mar 2014

As one of the greatest sports car manufacturers of all time, when Porsche puts out a new, ultra-exclusive hypercar, enthusiasts tend to stand up and take note. Jay Leno is no exception, and now, the funnyman is finally getting his time with awesome 918 Spyder.
With his 1963 Porsche 356 and his 2005 Carrera GT flanking a Liquid Silver 918, Leno takes us through the basics of this plug-in hybrid roadster alongside Daniel Eastman of Porsche North America. Following the chat, Leno and Eastman take the German-plated car through the streets of California, testing it in a number of modes and even going on a short, all-electric freeway cruise.
If you're looking to learn more about the 918, or to just here its glorious gas engine at work, you'll want to scroll down and take a look at the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage.
