Porsche introduced the new generation 911 called the 996 in 1999. This is the first year of the water cooled
Porsche 911. The 996 motors and the Boxter motors during the first four years of manufacture proved to be good
motors except for the failure of the Intermediate shaft bearing. The reason for the failure was because of a
design flaw of the part by Porsche. They made this a sealed bearing, which over time and use, spun the lubrication
out of the bearing, and because it was sealed, oil passing through the motor did not provide additional lubrication
to the intermediate shaft bearing. Once lubrication was absent; the ball bearings would grind against the other
ball bearings and a bearing failure would occur, putting metal pieces through out the motor effectively destroying
the motor. Do not consider buying a 996 Porsche unless the Intermediate shaft bearing has been up graded! This
being said; this car has just had this up graded Intermediate shaft bearing replaced two weeks ago. At the same
time, because the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing has to be removed to install the new Intermediate
shaft bearing; a brand new High Performance Sacs Clutch, Pressure Plate, and throw out bearing has also been
installed in this car by a Porsche Factory certified mechanic. (Receipts available with purchase of this vehicle.)
This 996 Porsche is a Carrera 4 which signifies that it is a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle. This car is a three owner car,
with all maintenance records since new with the vehicle. The car was sold new here in Knoxville by Harper's
Porsche Audi
for over $82,000.00 in 1999. Original window sticker is included in the sale. This car has never been wrecked,
and has a clean Car Fax, also provided with the sale of this vehicle. The vehicle now has just a couple of miles
over 46K. Since buying the car last August, I have spent over 10K doing a complete re-body and paint to make the
car look like a 2011 GT3RS. Modifications include; GT2 Front bumper cover with real Carbon Fiber accents on front
spoiler lip. Turbo lower side valance's on both sides. 997 Style GT3 Wing with real Carbon Fiber on Wing Blade. I
also bought a brand new set of OEM 19"Turbo wheels (8.5" Front 11" Rear) and had them Powder Coated Guards Red.
Less than 100 miles since mounting on the car. Absolutely NEW with NO curb rash at all. Pirelli P-Zero tires with
90% + tread remaining. ( 235-35-19 Front - 285-30-19 Rear) To complement the look of a $200K Porsche GT3RS; I
also installed a New High performance Cold Air Intake Inhaler in Yellow to match the exterior, and a brand new
Chrome Cat Back Exhaust System, eliminating the stock mufflers. (The original mufflers will be included with the
vehicle.) Additional maintenance just completed on the vehicle includes. New Alternator, New Battery. Oil change, 4
Wheel alignment. The vehicle also has brand new set of 4 Lloyd Floor Mats with Custom designed logo's. Everything
works as it should; all gauges, power seats, radio, stereo, sunroof. No engine lights with the exception of the
wing light for the rear wing comes on after driving the car over 70 MPH for some time.
That is because the power wing was removed to put on the 997 GT3 fixed wing. ( Original power wing included with
sale.) The 996 GT3RS was actually produced by Porsche in 2003 and 682 were produced but none were sold in the
United States.

McLaren boss' exclusive Porsche 935 Street is worth three 911 Turbos

Wed, 21 May 2014

McLarens may be exclusive, but there are still hundreds - if not thousands - of people out there who can say they own one. Mansour Ojjeh is one of them, but he doesn't just own a McLaren - he owns McLaren. As in, the company that makes the racing and exotic supercars. Or 25 percent of it, anyway. As the head of Techniques d'Avant Garde, Ojjeh is one of the British outfit's largest shareholders, previously having owned Heuer watches (before selling it to luxury giant LVMH) and engineered Porsche's most successful foray into Formula One - winning the world drivers' championship three times in a row and the constructors' title twice with Alain Prost and Niki Lauda behind the wheel of McLarens with Porsche engines developed and branded by TAG.
In short, he probably could get any McLaren he wanted at the drop of a hat, but also had strong ties to Porsche in the 80s, and this is the car he wanted. It's called the Porsche 935 Street, and it's the only one ever made. Inspired by the 935 racer that won Le Mans and over 120 other races, Ojjeh contracted Porsche Exclusive when it was still in its infancy to make him one for the road. So they took a 930 bodyshell, slotted in the 3.3-liter turbo flat-six from the 934 but cranked output up to 375 horsepower, and gave it the brakes, suspension, BBS wheels and wide-body aero from the 935 racer. They painted it a deep metallic red and trimmed the interior with cream leather and wood veneer.
When all was said and done, a total of 550 modifications were performed, detailed on a seventeen-page invoice and costing as much as three new 911 Turbos at the time. Ojjeh only put 12,000 miles on the odometer, running up and down the French Riviera, and has now put it up for sale at the upcoming Bonhams auction at Spa where it's tipped to fetch upwards of 300,000 euros - equivalent to $410k at today's rates, or, once again, the price of about three new 911 Turbos.

Evo makes the case for the world's best driving road in Majorca

Tue, 05 Aug 2014

What good is a sports car if you haven't got a great place to drive it? It's a common refrain that we've heard time and time again. But few are as familiar with the problem as they are in the UK, where the number of people, cars on the road and traffic cameras keep growing to conspire against the joy of driving. Leave it to Evo, then, to depart in search of the greatest driving road in the world.
It's a pursuit that's taken the British car mag across Europe, most recently to Romania's Carpathian Mountains where it added the Transalpina Pass to its short list. But its latest journey has taken Evo to the Spanish island of Majorca, where Henry Catchpole found not one, but two spectacular driving roads from behind the wheel of the new Porsche Boxster GTS. We could drone on about the smooth, empty ribbons of twisting tarmac with excellent visibility and panoramic vistas... but you really want to see the video for yourself. Don't miss Evo's previous trip to Romania in the Jaguar F-Type, which we've included below, as well.

Porsche gives GT3 owners extra year of warranty, new engines in production April 22

Sat, 12 Apr 2014

While the auto industry reels from massive recall after massive recall, Porsche has quietly been working on a fix for an issue that's forced owners of the new 911 GT3 to park their track-ready rockets for fear of an engine fire. Thanks to a leaked letter from Porsche to a GT3 owner (which has been certified as real), we now have an idea of just where the German brand is at with the fix.
On April 22, Porsche will begin production of a new batch of GT3 engines for the 785 affected models across the globe. As you'll recall, the original issue rested with a screw joint that could loosen the connecting rod. The new engines have an "optimized piston rod screw connection," that should keep the connecting rod in place. Once technical validations are completed, production will kick off and new powerplants will be shipped around the globe for owners of the troubled cars.
Porsche will hand out a certificate to owners of affected cars once repairs have been completed, as a means of documenting the work. To make up for the trouble, Porsche will be giving owners an extra year on their new-vehicle warranty, while the 911 GT3 concierge will be reaching out to compensate them for having to park their car for so long.
