Up for sale is my 1977 Porsche 911S with 993 body conversion.  The car looks very nice and draws a lot of attention in my driveway.  This has been a project car for me for the last several years but with the arrival of my third child, and getting a good deal on a newer 911, I have lost interest in completing the work needed to finish the vehicle.  When I purchased the vehicle, the car was running and driving, but smoked.  After driving it for several minutes, the smoke resolved and the car drove great with transmission, brakes, and engine all functioning properly.  After that, I parked it to finish the body conversion.  Three kids later, the motor will start but runs rough and smokes.  I have attempted to find a Porsche mechanic in town but have been unsuccessful so I do not know what issues the car is having although I expect they are minor.  The car does not run well enough to drive onto a trailer.  I also think a caliper is beginning to stick a little.  The car was stored in a garage in dry west Texas.  Rust is not an issue.

Exterior:  The car was originally yellow and has been plastidipped the same color to match the door jambs.  The car looks nice from a distance but has plenty of small blemishes up close.  The plastidip can be easily remove to finish out the car however you like.  The lights are in fairly good shape with some small chips in the rear reflector and turn signal.  The lights have not been wired.  The harness is there but the connectors have not been spliced on.  Tires still have some tread on them and the wheels look nice.  The hood emblem is brand new.  The sale will include the parts for the motorized spoiler but it has been removed secondary to clearance issues with the ducting on the motor.   There is a chip in the front windshield but no cracks.

Interior:  Seats look nice with no rips or tears.  Power windows and wipers function.  Stereo does not function.  Sunroof motor works, but the cable is not functioning.  Apparently this is common, and is fixed fairly easily.  A book will be included that explains the process.  There are a couple of small tears in the headliner that should be easy to repair.

Engine:  The previous owner states the motor was rebuilt in 1999.  He acquired the vehicle from the garage which sold it to him in a lien sale.  The smog equipment has been removed which improves power and dependability of the motor but will be an issue if you your state requires smog testing for this year vehicle.  The stock muffler is used but modified to 2 out and the exhaust tips are tack welded on.

Misc:  The battery is a couple of months old and a new fuel pump was installed.  A lot of work has been done on the car but there is plenty left to be done.  The car includes the factory space saving spare and trunk carpet as well as a couple of Porsche project manuals.  Winning bidder may also purchase a carbon fiber RS wing for an extra $300 or a fiberglass Turbo S wing for $200.  Neither are painted to match.  The title is bonded but has no liens.  The previous owner never had the car switched to his name because it would not pass smog in California.  He had owned it since 2000 and I have had it for a few years but did not get the title in my name until recently in order to sell the car.  I will respond to questions as quickly as possible.  I have tried to be as detailed as possible about the condition of the car, but this is a project with many small tasks which need to be completed.  With a little work, this will make someone a fun vehicle.  This is a no reserve auction, so the high bidder takes it home.  Buyer responsible for pickup and shipping.  Thanks for looking and happy bidding.

Porsche 918 Spyder already almost sold out?

Mon, 20 Oct 2014

Still planning on getting your hands on a Porsche 918 Spyder? You'd better act quickly, because word has it that the hybrid hypercar is nearly sold out.
While Porsche has reportedly only delivered a little over 30 of the 918 examples of the Spyder it plans to manufacture in total, Automotive News says that production is sold out through late March or early April - just a few months shy of when production is set to wrap in July.
That's pretty impressive for a car with a base price of almost $850,000, especially one requiring a $200,000 deposit just to get your name on the list. Still, that sum is significantly less than its competitors get for the McLaren P1 or LaFerrari, both of which sell for over a million (if you can actually get on one at that price), though in fairness, production of each is limited to less than half of the 918 Spyder.

Porsche picks Maria Sharapova as brand ambassador

Tue, 23 Apr 2013

Russian-born tennis superstar Maria Sharapova has just inked a three-year deal with Porsche to be its brand ambassador, a position that will put her on a global campaign for the German automaker. The 26-year-old athlete isn't new to the role - she previously signed a similar three-year deal with Land Rover in 2006.
"Maria Sharapova is an exceptional athlete. She combines top performance in her sports with elegance and power. These are precisely the qualities that are embroiled in our sports cars," explained Matthias Mueller, CEO of Porsche AG, during the announcement. "Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche. She is also highly respected around the world and enjoys an outstanding reputation," he added.
Some consider Porsche's choice of a female tennis player as its ambassador interesting, if not surprising. The automaker has traditionally marketed its vehicles with a masculine edge - Sharapova and the sport of tennis position the brand in a different light - likely an intentional decision. Do you think Porsche's choice was a good one? If not, who would you choose as its global ambassador?

Drive-up bank robbery perpetrated with Cayenne and WRX

Sat, 14 Sep 2013

Thieves carried out what appears to be a movie-script-perfect robbery of a bank in Sydney, Australia early on Friday morning, using two stolen high-performance vehicles in the process.
At around 11:15 AM local time, in near mid-day light, reports say that two men in masks smashed into the side of a Westpac bank in a confirmed-stolen black Porsche Cayenne. The perpetrators were armed with sledgehammers according to witness reports, and took only about five minutes to take what they were after inside of the bank.
The rapid getaway was executed in a Subaru WRX, also confirmed as a stolen vehicle, while witnesses snapped camera phone images of the illicit goings on. One Twitter user posted a few of the images to his social media feed; you can take a look at them in our small gallery below. Follow on down for the full video report, from The Sydney Morning Herald.
