Due to kid’s college I am selling my 1974 PORSCHE 911 2 DOOR TARGA with 2.2 liter engine with rebuilt 40IDA3C webers!     2nd listing this summer because 1st bidder was a fraud.

· You are going to love the attention that comes your way wherever you go and the fun you will have driving it! I know I can get a lot of money for the parts if I part it out, but I have never destroyed one of these, so I am willing to let it go for less than what it is worth rather than part it out. Typical value for these is around $12k-$18k. Noted below are the inherent values of the parts if I were to part it out e.g. easily worth over the $12000 in all the potential parts (many discussed below). This car is not perfect, has some work to do, but it is a great starter that can be driven now. Excellence magazine lists the 1974 Targa from $12,700 to $19,600, so this car is a lot better than the lowest listing, although it will need some attention over time.

· Boxer 6 cylinder engine with a rock solid performance 2.2 liter engine. The Engine has been rebuilt, but I don't know when. I adjusted valves, changed oil and all filters, checked for broken head studs, etc in the last 4 months. Like most these it does have its small oil leaks, although I haven’t noticed too much oil usage or engine smoking. Each of the exhaust headers has an O2 bung to test for air fuel ratio.

· Updated chain tensioner kit has been added.

· Webers are rebuilt in almost like new condition. Problematic fuel injection has been replaced by rebuilt Weber carburetors. Engine is currently set for 13.5 AFR at idle on all cylinders.

· I have spent the last 3 years making this car very solid. All of the significant rust in the front pan and front areas or underneath have been fully cut out and double MIG welded. It only has a bit of general surface rust in a few spots underneath which can be easily seen. The front fender body area on the inside had a small crease, but it has been well fixed. All the rest has of the rust problems have been cut out and steel welded over. Finished in Alpine White, the exterior of this Porsche shows quite well. There are a few minor paint runs or oversprays that are not noticeable until you are really close. It is nice and shiny. The dash has been recovered so there are no obvious cracks.

·  Has the front right fender mounted oil cooler with Porsche lines and thermostat was added to keep the engine cool.

· 5 speed manual transmission:   very good shape with no synchro problems, has been updated with Ed’s whisper transmission coupler and a Seine like gate shifter (spring loaded for gears 1-2); new clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing.

· Targa top; very nice shape but one of the cross bars has the end broke, but there is no problem when mounted.

· Inside carpet and seats are fine but carpets have been taped and seats replaced with other better shape seats from newer cars.  Seats are different from each other.

· VDO gauges ($500), but the speedometer doesn’t work, although I know the cable is good.

· 4 vintage 1968 6x15 steel wheels and 1 Fuchs replica for a spare. All the tires have plenty of tread, but I would replace them when I get the right wheels as they are dated.

· Nice solid fenders, solid doors, power windows that work and one driver’s side power mirror that doesn’t.

· Front anti sway bar

· Replaced the midtunnel brake line when the engine was out.

· New brake master cylinder and new brake pads.

Still left to do:

· Windshield has a new seal, but the window has one vertical crack all the way top to bottom. No impact to driving and I would not replace it now. Crack was there before we put it back in with the new seal.

· One of the high beams doesn’t work.

· Right door was replaced and needs adjusting.

· Does not have the lower side skirts, they can be provided if you want them. I don’t like them.

Porsche-Piech buy 10% stake in VW's holding company

Tue, 18 Jun 2013

In August, 2009, as the scuttled merger of Porsche and Volkswagen had gone bad and Porsche was backed up against the ropes, Porsche Automobil Holding SE (PAHSE) relinquished a ten-percent stake in itself to Qatar Holdings as well as options it held on 17 percent of VW shares. The sale meant that, for the first time since the founding of the company 61 years before, an entity outside the Porsche and Piech families had a say in the running of PAHSE.
Buying that ten-percent stake back returns full ownership to the two families, the holding company's sole possession being ownership of 50.7 percent of VW's common shares. The price paid wasn't disclosed, but at market rates the purchase would be worth close to $1.25 billion. Qatar intends to hold onto the 17-percent stake it has in Volkswagen.

Audi and Porsche squabble over future product platforms

Tue, 22 Jul 2014

In the buildup to the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, Audi delivered an amusing video that worked on the playful rivalry between the German brand and its favorite frenemy, Porsche. We called it sibling rivalry, and at the time, it may have been just that. But just like sibling rivalries, it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, and that's just what seems to be about to happen in the formerly peaceful Volkswagen Group family.
A new report from Automobile calls out the growing animosity between Porsche, who is backed up by Bentley, and Audi, whose primary ally is Lamborghini. No blows have actually been thrown, although there is a fair amount of "he said, she said" going on.
As Porsche tells it, for example, the new global fullsize SUV architecture being developed by Audi isn't up to snuff, citing size and structure issues, as well as an inability to accommodate a wide variety of engines.

This is why we love the Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

In the world of restomods, Singer Vehicle Designs is inarguably one of our absolute favorites. The company, founded by rocker Rob Dickinson, has made its name as an obsessive constructor of vintage, built-to-order Porsche 911s with modern internals and beautiful accouterments.
Xcar has put together a lengthy interview with Dickinson, covering the source of his fascination with the 911 and his passion for automotive design, before falling into his rock-and-roll days with his band Catherine Wheel. He also covers how he got into the world of modifying Porsches, rather than just restoring them. There's much, much more in the video, though, and we promise, you won't want to miss it.
Take a look.
