For sale is a very early G-series Porsche 911.  It is the 43rd Porsche 911 Targa that was produced in 1973 for the model year 1974. This 40-year old classic is rust free being a SoCal car.  It is a numbers matching car with 2.7 liter fuel injected engine and 5 speed type 915 transmission. The exterior paintwork finished in guards red is beautiful and has a mirror shine.  The rubber mouldings, decos, bumper guards, H4 headlights, fog lights and side mirrors are pristine especially for the car's age.

The German canvas convertible top is ok but the rear zippered plastic window is hazy and shows it's age. The interior is original and complete. It shows very decent especially the dash, console boxes, guages, door cards and carpeting. The powered front leather seats are cracked and torn with the driver's seat being worse than the passenger's but being original Recaros are very comfortable. The car has an aftermarket Alpine Cd unit with Pioneer speakers.

Very recent preventive work was done during my ownership on what I felt were weak points of the car.  The windshield weatherstrip was replaced with a brand new one because the old one was beginning to crack due to age. The inner and outer hub bearings were replaced with genuine Porsche parts because they were old and probably still the 40-year old originals. The brake system was totally restored and a brand new uprated master cylinder was installed. All the brake calipers on all 4 corners were replaced with remanufactured ones and brand new brake hoses were installed as well because they were beginning to show age.  A set of 4 brand new tires that have less than 50 miles at present were mounted and balanced unto the staggered 16" Fuchs wheels.

The car has current California tags and registration good up to June 2014.

Porsche drivers escape this horrific VIR crash unscathed

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

There is no doubting the fact that it takes nerves of steel to be a racecar driver, but the same can also be said for motorsports photographers. Case in point: The American Le Mans Series Oak Tree Grand Prix at the Virginia International Raceway where two Porsche 911 racecars crash hard into the tire barrier, but the dedicated cameraman stays with the shot - diving away only at the last second just as the battered No. 31 car (shown above) comes to rest atop the tire barriers just feet from where he was standing.
The crash occurred when the two Porsches charged hard into a corner. Judging by the video, the white No. 48 car appears to not see the orange No. 31 and the two cars make contact, skidding off track hitting the tire barriers at a high rate of speed. Both drivers walked away from the frightening crash, but the video - posted below - shows just how bad things could have been. Hopefully the close call will serve as a lesson for the woman standing in the track marshal's post who has her back to the racing as the two cars barrel directly toward her.

Porsche announces four flavors of updated Cayenne [w/video]

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

The new Macan may be getting all the attention lately, but Porsche hasn't forgotten about its larger crossover - the one that put it on the map in 2002 and on the road to profitability, with over half a million sold so far. So to keep the Cayenne at the top of its game, Porsche has announced several key upgrades for the 2015 model.
For starters, Porsche has updated the Cayenne's appearance with new front- and rear-end styling. The front bumper, fenders and hood are entirely new, with air fins flanking the nose to direct air into the intercoolers (each model now being artificially aspirated), and new bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running LEDs on every model but the Turbo, which goes all-LED. Around back there's also new taillights, tailgate handle, lower rear fascia and exhaust pipes. Meanwhile the interior has been upgraded with a 918-derived sport steering wheel and reformed rear seats with available ventilation.
The bigger news is under the engine bay, where Porsche is offering four choices. The base model is gone as the range starts with the Cayenne Diesel, followed by the Cayenne S, the new Cayenne S E-Hybrid and the top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo. The Diesel model carries over the same 3.0-liter turbo diesel with 240 horsepower. The Cayenne S however packs a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 that's similar to the one found in the Macan Turbo and packs the same 406 lb-ft of torque but more power at 420 hp, 20 more than either its little brother or the model it replaces to reach 62 mph in 5.2 seconds.

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid

Mon, 03 Nov 2014

Think of the electric motor in the facelifted 2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid as the cream filling in an Oreo cookie. Under the hood of this plug-in hybrid crossover is a 333-horsepower, supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with a 95-hp synchronous electric motor sandwiched between it and an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The clutched powertrain allows pure combustion, pure electric or a combination of both to drive all four wheels through Porsche's permanent all-wheel-drive system.
Differentiating itself from the Panamera S E-Hybrid sedan, which shares the same basic powertrain and stores energy in a 9.4-kWh battery, the Cayenne crossover is fit with a more robust 10.8-kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers an estimated pure-electric driving range of up to 22 miles at speeds of up to 78 miles per hour.
To be one of the very first US media members to sample Porsche's latest fuel-efficient crossover, the automaker flew us to Frankfurt, Germany, to test the five-passenger Cayenne S E-Hybrid on its home turf.
