This is a very rare opportunity to own a 1988 Porsche 911 that has been professionally backdated to a longhood in 73RS fashion. This backdate has less than 100 miles on it. I love this car but recently moved and expanded my family. This car has been my favorite car and something I thought I would keep forever. It is not completed but it is close, It will need things like turn signals hooked up, tachometer working, some wires buttoned up and hidden and some touch up work and engine tuning. It is a G50 1988 galvanized body 911 and the original motor was swapped with a 3.3 turbo engine. It is an almost finished product that will require some final touches and tuning as I have run out of time and space and moved from my known Porsche mechanics.

LESS THAN 100 MILES!!!

Body:

It started out as a 1988 car that was backdated using fiberglass bumpers and hoods. This car has never been wrecked and is perfectly straight.  All body gaps are perfect and much money and time was spent to achieve this. It is painted in 1973 Viper Green. It has a center mount “through the hood” filler that was sourced from Germany. All trim has been polished to be correct for the period, the rear windshield trim is not installed but a brand new one purchased from Stoddard Porsche will be supplied. It uses the correct longhood grill for the ducktail. The paint has less than 100 miles on it and is perfect save a chip from where the ducktail was dropped (pictured). The wheels are original fuchs 15x6 and 15x7. the where finished in RSR style with a froster center and polished lip. All lenses and seals are brand new. It has H4 headlight and lightweight straps for holding the hood down. The hood has three BALSA wood strips so that it is not flimsy and looks correct to the period also. all edges and undersides are finished. It really looks quite amazing.

Interior:

The original 1988 interior was swapped in favor of the light weight you see. It has Brand new carpet.I do have a brand new Ivory headliner that will be included in the sale but not installed yet. The seats are CARBON KEVLAR momo corse seats. These seats are amazing and weigh less than 10lbs. each. It has a seatbelt harness bar that I think adds to that hot rod look. The next step I would do is send the guages out to be refitted to look like a 1973. Again this is your rare chance to add your own touches to the final details. The interior will need to be completed but as you can see from the pictures is very close to being 100%.

Drivetrain:

This is where the HOT in hot rod comes from. It is G50 5 speed transmission hooked to a 3.3 liter TURBO engine. When this car comes on boost...HANG ON!!!! It is absolutely terrifying. Once again this car is not 100% finished but close. So 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. gear pulls like a freight train but becomes very rich in higher gears and will sputter. It will need to be tuned and I regret very much not being able to do this and really feel the power of this beast. This is the best of both worlds a turbo motor and a G50 transmission. This car can be driven but will need shipped or towed to your house until you tune it and work out the bugs. The longest trip I have taken in it was 20 miles. While I did not have problems on that trip, It does only have 100 miles on the car and I have been stranded in the nieghborhood for various reasons that were addressed ( battery not strapped down, Oil line came loose, ETC) these are the problems that will need to be addressed when you own the car.

This is your rare chance to own a brand new 88/73 Hot rod. Much money, time, and dedication was spent on this car and it will be an absolutely amazing machine once finished. The car is located in NASHVILLE, TN and is available to inspect. I have a clean and clear title in my name. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Thank You and Good luck.

Porsche Macan sales may push brand past 200K unit goal early

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

In late 2010, Volkswagen announced that it would spend the equivalent of $71 billion through 2015 to beef up its product lineup, determined to overtake Toyota in overall sales and profitability by 2018. Each of VW's many brands, in turn, would play its part contributing to a goal of 10 million sales per year. VW-owned Porsche was expected to sell 200,000 vehicles per year by 2018, but with the imminent arrival of the Macan small sport utility vehicle in 2014, the automaker is poised to meet that goal years ahead of schedule, Automotive News reports.
Porsche sold 143,096 cars in 2012, and IHS Automotive predicts Porsche will sell 63,000 Macans in 2014, according to Automotive News, which would make it the brand's best-selling vehicle. Do the math and you can see how Porsche could easily beat original expectations ahead of schedule. But Porsche's sales and marketing boss Bernhard Maier says not so fast: "We will not offer [63,000 Macans] in 2014 as we will still be ramping up production and introducing models top down," he told Automotive News Europe. Whether Porsche surpasses the 200,000 mark early or not, he said, the company will not set a new sales target and will remain committed to its business model.
The Macan shares its architecture with the Audi Q5, but Porsche will be able to charge more for its SUV. Tim Urquhart, a senior analyst at IHS Autmotive, told Automotive News that Porsche can charge 10 to 20 percent more, for what is basically the same SUV, than other VW Group brands. How's that for brand value?

Porsche's 959 is still poster-worthy after all these years

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Today, we have the Porsche 918 Spyder. Before that, there was the Carrera GT. While both of those cars are dramatic departures from the traditional, rear-engine Porsche formula, they owe their very existence to another wild child of the iconic German brand - the 959.
Like so many of the great performance cars of yesteryear, the 959 was a homologation special, built just so Porsche could go racing in the clinically insane Group B rally series. Fewer than 400 959s hit the streets, but those that did were some of the most advanced cars of the 1980s. A rear-mounted, twin-turbocharged flat-six sent its power through a still-rare all-wheel-drive system, creating a race-inspired rocket that was, for a short time, the fastest production car on the planet.
Xcar has the story of the 959, from its inception to its conquest of the Paris-Dakar rally, which is interspersed with a drive of the legendary coupe. Scroll down for the full video.

New J.D. Power Initial Quality Study puts Porsche, GM in spotlight

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

J.D. Power and Associates has released its annual Initial Quality Study, and this year, Porsche and General Motors took the spotlight. The study, which asks new car owners to report problems experienced during the first 90 days of ownership, found that overall, the industry averages 113 problems per 100 vehicles.
Porsche managed a score of just 80 problems per 100 vehicles, while GMC took the second spot on the podium with 90. Lexus filled out the top three with 94 problems per 100 vehicles, followed by Infiniti at 95 and Chevrolet at 97. The study also looks at specific models, and found the Lexus LS to enjoy the best initial quality at 59 problems per 100 vehicles.
Interestingly enough, the report found that around two-thirds of most owner problems experienced in the first 90 days are attributable to vehicle design instead of mechanical failure. Specifically - echoing a refrain we've been hearing for the last few years - owners are having a hard time figuring out how to use the technology present in their new vehicles. Head over to the J.D. Power site for more information, or scroll down below for the company's related press release.
