1971 Porsche 911E/959 Reproduction

Unique lines, and raw power are the two main ingredients that make up the Porsche 959. It was the modern day Super Car of the 1980's, and to this day is still sought after by some, and dreamt of by many Porsche fanatics the world over. However, with an average price of well over a million dollars, The Porsche 959 has simply become unattainable...until now.

Move over Mr. Gates, you're not the only one on the block with one of these beauties!

Unlike most reproduction vehicles, this 959 captures every element of the original. No expense was spared when it came time to build this one of a kind masterpiece.

The Body

This reproduction was not built on some one off, or piece together frame like most others. The builder searched for the perfect canvas to build is dream on. He found that in a very solid southern California 1971 Porsche 911E. The body being one of only 1087 pieces ever built. From there the kit was purchased ($12,000) and work officially started.

This would be where the real work would begin. The builder wrapped up tens of thousands of dollars, and hundreds of hours of body work to have the kit fitted and prepped for paint. Being a fanatic himself, the builder chose one of the foremost favorite colors amongst Porsche enthusiasts, Guards Red. This really made it quite the head turner!

The Power-plant

By far the area of expertise for this build. Most reproductions keep the standard motor that would have been present at the time of the build, but not this time. When it came time to choose the right power-plant for this build, the team knew just the right piece of Porsche engineering to propel this monster down the road.

An unmolested 1975 Porsche Carerra Twin-Plug race motor with 40mm Triple Weber Carbs was just the right fit. Being one of only 1782 motors ever built this little flat six is worth over $15,000 on today’s market. (Motor #6551214)

The engine just went under a rigorous fresh tune up, which included all new plugs, fully rebuilt carburetors, fresh fluids, and some timing adjustments. The sound of this engine has the ability to bring shivers down your spine. This is due to the long tube headers, and sport style exhaust. You will not find another sound as unique as this fire breathing monster!

The transmission is the standard dog leg style trans that would have been original to the 1971 911E. Being that it is a 911/01 style trans. (Trans #7111264) All new shifter bushings were done, and the trans was gone through and checked out immaculately. The power from that vicious motor is transplanted to the ground through some pretty serious rubber. By using modern day Three-Piece Turbo Twist wheels wrapped in Pirelli Pzero rubber. Front (235/40-18) Rear (285/40-18)

This rocket has no problem getting the power to the ground to propel this 959 down the road at break neck speeds!

The Interior

This area of the vehicle was done very tastefully, and represents that 1980's era perfectly with a modern twist! The inside of this 959 is white leather not matter where you're looking. The dash, door panels, all four seats, headliner, rear panels, steering wheel, shift knob, and even the emergency brake boot are all wrapped exceptionally. With the modern style white faced gauges and carbon fiber dash applique. This interior just screams style!

Many of the interior features have been upgraded to their modern day counter parts. The 959 has power windows on both doors, and power seats for both driver and passenger.

There are even those 70's style rear pop out windows for some extra breeze!

The Perfect Package

Many Porsche fanatics grew up staring at only a poster or picture of this piece of Porsche design brilliance, dreaming of the day they would own one. Well today is your chance! With over $50,000 invested in this project, you could not come close to ever building one for the this price!

With only 1231 miles since completion, why wait when you can fulfill those dreams of 959 ownership today! And not take the financial burden of owning a real one. Believe me, you will turn just as many heads, if not more with this beauty!

Another cool projection vid, this time with a Porsche 911

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Porsche has become the latest automaker to take advantage of clever projection technology. The automaker worked up a quick presentation for the 2013 911 Carrera 4S to show off a bit of "motionless driving." The display tracks the sports car from production to back-road caning and city-center cruising, displaying a variety of exterior color choices and wheel options without resorting to a two-dimensional video.
This isn't the first time we've seen an automaker use its new product as a projection screen. Subaru, Hyundai, Lamborghini and others have all done the same, and the trick never fails to be visually interesting.
As you may recall, we got to play with the 2013 911 Carrera 4S back in November and found the machine to be a better daily driver than its rear-wheel drive counterpart. You can check out the projection video below.

The pre-race and first in-race report from Le Mans

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

The 2013, 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, tragedy marking the opening laps with the death of Allan Simonsen. We're at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven't been able to find out what caused the accident - the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there's been no more news. The Aston Martin in the LM GTE Am class and its all-Danish drivers had taken pole in its class and was one of the favorites to win.
The pre-race report will come first, and even thought we can't spoil the race because we're only five hours into it at the time of writing, we'll put all of the news at the end in case you don't even want the updates.
Or you can go straight to the high-res galleries above.

All Porsche 911s to get turbos in 2015?

Sun, 19 Oct 2014

Currently, Porsche builds two turbocharged 911s - the Turbo and the Turbo S (and their cabriolet counterparts). The rest of the 911 range, meanwhile, is motivated by either 3.4- or 3.8-liter flat-sixes of varying outputs. This clear separation could be set to change in the very near future, though, as rumors continue to swirl that Porsche's rear-engined range could switch exclusively to turbocharged power.
This time, it's Car projecting that the 911 range will go turbocharged as part of a mid-cycle refresh, with the base Carrera's 3.4-liter dropping to 2.9 liters and adding an iron lung, bumping the entry level 911 up to 400 horsepower. Yes, a 400-horsepower, entry level 911. The Carrera S, meanwhile, will retain its 3.8-liter engine, but will also benefit from turbocharging, increasing output to 530 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. So basically, it sounds like the current, 520-hp 911 Turbo will become the next Carrera S.
What does that mean for Porsche's traditional high-performance models? Well, it's a safe bet that the Turbo, Turbo S and eventual GT2 will be producing seriously huge power figures. Based on pure speculation, we wouldn't be shocked to see a 600-hp Turbo, with the S and GT2 increasing output markedly from there.
