The fit and finish of the red leather interior compliments the exterior factory color of champagne yellow (but not original color). The paint is bright and even, showing zero dents or dings in the body of the car. The fenders and all major panels of the car are original. There is no bondo on this car. The largest negative feature of this 356 is the horn cover on the steering wheel, which has a minor crack in it. These are no longer available, unless one finds an original piece to replace it.

Chassis: #215839

Model: 1964 356C Karmann Coupe

Suspension/Brakes: All suspension components have been refurbished or replaced. All four shocks and brake calipers/pads/discs are new. The 356C was the first model porsche to come with 4 disc brakes as standard. The steering on this car is impeccable and light. The brakes are virtually new and feel strong.

Interior: All interior lights and switches work. Including blinkers, windshield wipers, and high beams. The tach, speedometer, and odometer all work as they should. Mileage on odometer is not original, but reflects miles put on the car since its restoration. Original Blaupunkt radio is installed, though not currently hooked up. The interior leather is of the highest quality and sourced from a local porsche interior supplier. The fit and finish of the front and rear seats, door cards, and carpets are all neat and in fine order. Zero tears or stains. The interior of this car smells and looks new and fresh.

Exterior: All chrome on this car is perfect. There is ZERO rust or pitting on any of the bumpers or accents.  Both doors, as well as the hood and trunk lid close securely, with even panel gaps. All four wheels have no curb rash and present really well.

Engine: The 1600cc 356b S engine recently had a full servicing of all fluids, new spark plugs, and the carbs and valves finely tuned. The engine is fed by twin solex carburetors. The car starts briskly, even from a cold start, idles strongly, and pulls strongly through all of its four gears. The battery is new and has always been kept on a tender.

Malaise Era All-Stars

Fri, 17 May 2013

A few weeks ago, we bid a fond happy 40th anniversary to the automotive dark ages of 1973-84 that have come to be known as "The Malaise Era" - the performance ice-age when 160 horsepower was a lot and a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds was remarkable. Like music in the 1980s, everything in automobiledom didn't suck, however. There were a few bright spots. Here are five of our favorites:

Studiotorino shows new Cayman-based Moncenisio sports car

Mon, 24 Mar 2014

While the recent bankruptcy of Bertone shows that it has become very difficult to be a coachbuilder today, it seems there is still a business case in creating unique bodies for premium vehicles. Case in point, Studiotorino a small, Italian coachbuilder that has been creating limited-edition cars since 2005. Its latest creation is the Moncenisio, which debuted as a prototype at the National Automobile Museum of Turin on March 21. It's named after the 1902 Susa-Moncenisio race in Italy, the first automotive hillclimb in the world.
The Moncenisio begins life as Porsche Cayman S, and each car will be built to order with a planned production run of 19 examples. The chassis, mechanicals and engine are all left untouched. The only thing that Studiotorino alters are the body panels and interior appointments. Prices start at at a heady 145,000 euros ($200,420 US), plus the cost of the donor vehicle.
Architect Daniele Gaglione penned the shape of the Moncenisio, taking inspiration from the 1963 Porsche 904. The sports coupes receive carbon fiber pieces that replace the front bumper, side panels and rear bumper. Studiotorino also covers the rear side windows with welded metal panels. The design is still clearly a Cayman, especially from the front, but the extended roof and support pillars create a new look from behind, which features a new exhaust treatment and rear spoiler. The interior receives leather upholstery on the engine compartment cover, the partition between the engine and seats, ceiling and A-pillars. Scroll down to view a walkaround of the Moncenisio and read the full press release about it.

Watch Porsche's 918 Spyder break a sweat while hot weather testing

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

With five months left until the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder enters production, Porsche engineers are still putting the hybrid sports coupe through a battery of last-minute tests. To give us new reasons to ogle over the car - as if we needed any more - Porsche has released a short video showing the 918 Spyder undergoing shakedown tests in the hot Nevada desert. And you can't drive through Nevada without visiting Vegas, too, right?
Although there's really nothing new to see in this video, it's still fun to watch as Porsche approaches one million test miles logged on this exciting new high-performance model. One interesting part (at around the 0:37 mark) shows the car taking off under electric power and then transitioning to engine power, which results in a mix of whirs and growls as the 918 Spyder switches from a 127-horsepower electric vehicle to an 887-hp hybrid supercar. Scroll down to watch - and hear - Porsche's latest creation in motion.
