A Beautiful Black California 1978 Pontiac Trans Am with the rare WS6 Special Trans Am Performance Package and T-Top roof (Only 2558 of this model was built). This low mileage vehicle (just hit 55555 miles) has had a frame-off restoration recently completed (see photos) and restored with original GM or ACDelco parts. This vehicle is in original "almost new" condition. This is a "Matching Numbers" vehicle which means the VIN number on the dash matches the VIN numbers stamped on the engine, transmission, and date codes on other parts. I have complete documentation of this car's dealer order form and option content from Pontiac Historical Services. This vehicle is a California car and was built at the Van Nuys CA assembly plant. It still has all the original VJ9 emissions control equipment and factory catalytic converter (California buyers will not have to make any modifications to license this car). The engine is the 6.6L 403, it has a turbo-hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission, the rear axle has factory safety-track (posi-traction) with 3.23:1 gears. The tires are brand new on reproduction 15x8 snowflake wheels. I do have the original 1978 all-gold painted 15x8 wheels if you would rather have them instead. The exhaust system, catalytic converter, brakes, suspension, electrical, fuel and brake systems have all been replaced with correct original parts. The carburetor, and transmission were just overhauled, the engine is in great condition, does not burn oil, and runs great. The vehicle has power windows and power door locks too. This vehicle has not been hot-rodded or modified. The exterior paint is new with new stickers. The air conditioning and cruise control work. it has an original radio with cassette player. The original interior was black vinyl, but it is now is has been upgraded to tan cloth. This vehicle is completely road worthy and licensed; it is very fun to drive.

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.
