Missoula, Montana, United States

Low Reserve, Bid only to Buy! Car is going to sell!

One owner 78 Trans am. Have PHS documented papers from the Pontiac historic society . Sold new right here in Missoula MT.

Has Factory High Performance Pontiac 400 Numbers matching engine with W72 option ( high proformace engine with more horse power option). Very Rare. Factory Hurst shifter and Borg-warner T-10 4-Speed Manual transmission. Deluxe Interior package with power windows. Interior is way above average. No cracks in the dash, No rips in the deluxe cloth seats. Very nice for how old it is. Could use original carpet replaced. Could use carb adjustment. Windows need some attention to go all the way down. Paint is flaking off in spots. Only rust on car is drivers quarter and passenger side fender on the bottoms. Very Solid car otherwise. Solid floors, trunk, Rear valance behind gas tank and next to rear bumper. No rust in passenger quarter or driver side fender. Everything seems to work and drives very nice. Does not drip oil on garage floor. Engine sounds extremely healthy. The owner I bought it from said motor has not been out of car but you can hear that the cam is not stock. sounds like alot more power then stock so maybe work on engine was done in the car. I am not sure other than it does not sound stock and is very clean. I puchased the car from the son of the dad that bought it new and passed away a few months ago. Son did not know too much other then it was his baby and well cared for. CD player works but I removed wiring after I bought it and planned on rewiring it when I replaced the carpet. So , It still needs wired up.

This is a rare and desirable car with very nice options. Black interior and silver platinum paint. Nice wheels and tires. Have clear title. Comes with original shaker. I bought one that was not cut out, so both come with car. Has Posi rear-end . Has new starter and rebuilt radiator. All PHS documents and spare parts, extra shaker go with car. I have sold a few cars in 2010 and many parts on eBay. I have perfect feedback on cars and parts for many years. I try to describe the best I can so no surprises. It would not take much money to turn this car into a high dollar car or drive the way it is. I like the hard top because if you have more then 220hp the t-top car can twist on a fast take off. T-top cars dont do well with more horsepower because they are not stiff enough. T-tops also always leak. 4 speeds are rare and getting very hard to find especially in the 77-78 bantit looking years. Cash in person or funds clear before car goes anywhere. I am happy to work with your shipper or pick you up at airport for you to drive home. Car has 119000 miles. Same style car as in the Movie Smokey and the bandit accept no leaking t-tops and can handle the power better. Any questions let me know. 406 239-9817

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.
