A 1978 Trans Am, including history and documentation (Leader Automotive, George DeLorean).

It is finished in original paint, Mayan Red, original black velour custom interior, power windows, tilt, AM/FM stereo radio, electric rear window defroster, and WS6 special performance package, all in excellent condition.

Now things change.

The original owner had special ordered the special WS6 package car and had it shipped to Detroit, MI. From there it
was sent to Troy, MI. All this was done with the full intent of having the original engine removed and having
Leader Automotive build a custom built Pontiac engine. Within a week of receiving the car, he took it to Leader
Automotive and had it turned into a sleeper. The outside maintained its original appearance but a monster custom
engine underneath, designed and built by George Delorean, brother of John DeLorean of Pontiac Motors. George
Delorean is the renowned, legendary engine builder that owned Leader Automotive.

George Delorean, pulled the Pontiac 400 and replaced it with a custom built 428 block with RAIV heads (stamped 7F6)
and a Holley Street Dominator manifold, Holley carburetor, Round Port Hooker Headers (Super Comp) with 2" primary,
3.5 collection, were installed with a free flow exhaust system. The original TH350 transmission was pulled a TH400,
with a shift kit, was installed. As well as, a 3000RPM, Stall Converter, and additional external oil cooler. The
rear end was changed from a 323 post tract to a 410 gears set. In the beginning, the car had a solid lift cam but
was later changed to a hydraulic lifter to provide better driving ability.

It is wild the way we happen to come across this car because it was really just sheer chance, as we weren’t even
remotely looking. To find a car that is in such fantastic condition, originality preserved, unheard of low mileage,
with a custom built George DeLorean engine…. Just wow! Other than the drive train, the car is in original and
pristine condition. The car was originally under coated and also has the Ziebart treatment. Now due to the car
being stored for over 25 years it had developed some oil seal and gasket leaks, so the engine had to be pulled. We
cleaned up the engine bay and degreased it. While the engine was out we cleaned and degreased the engine, replaced
the gaskets and seals, then painted the engine the correct Pontiac blue. We cleaned and polished the original
installed Moroso valve covers and oil pan. Also we replaced the exhaust, as it had seen its days sitting for 25
plus years, and the headers, due to one being damaged. Thanks for looking.

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.
