Up for auction this week is a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. This is an original black car with black velour interior. The seats and dashpad are original. The headliner, carpet, and doorpanels have been replaced. This is a very good running and driving car that is a work in progress. The paint is five years old and is a PPG base/clear urethane. The clear is 2021 with DCX 61 catalyst, for those in the paint world. It still looks very nice, but is not a concours show car. It has never been buffed. The gold SE stripe kit was recently added making this Trans Am a real attention grabber. The tires are Goodyear radials with 85% tread remaining. It is a factory A/C car, missing only the compressor and manifold lines. The condensor and underdash A/C parts are still in the car. As seen in the interior photo, the radio is missing. These are among a few minor items that make this a work in progress in my opinion. This is  a car that you can enjoy immediately while finishing the detail touches. It gets a lot of attention wherever it goes. It is a solid car with no rust issues. The TH 350 transmission developed a minor leak a few months ago, so while is was out to be repaired, I had the mechanic go ahead and completely rebuild it. The Rochester carb was rebuilt about a year ago and cranks easily and performs well. The snowflake wheels are factory 15x7. Someone decided it was a good idea (NOT) to install 1979 tail lights and rear bumper on the car. This could easily be changed back with standard 1978 Firebird parts from a salvage yard. Don't miss out on a very reasonably priced car that you can drive and enjoy now. This car is for sale locally for $6500.00, so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time in the event that it sells. I am selling this car as is. If you personally come look at this car after winning it, and you feel I haven't accurately described it, you do not have to take it. However, if you are the winner and have someone else come get it before you see the car, there will be no refunds. You are welcome to come see and hear it run at any time during the auction. Thanks for looking at my auction.

I just want to be sure that everyone is aware that the SE trim was added to an original black car, but it is not an original SE car.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
