1975 Pontiac Trans Am

1975 Pontiac Trans Am. The mid-year '75 (1 of 857 produced) came exclusively with a 455 HO engine mated to a 4-spd MT and a 3.23 limited slip diff. This car came loaded with a/c, power windows, power door locks, rare rear console, but the trans was converted to AT. Odometer is showing 35K but I cannot verify the mileage. Purchased by previous owner in 1986 from the then-president of Texas Trans Am club of San Antonio. I have another 1975 and decided to keep it so this one is for sale. It would make a great pro-street Trans Am which are selling for big money.

Engine runs and idles great and is a beast, runs very strong. Trans shifts fine, and chassis feels solid. Everything works except the A/C and washer fluid pump. Fluids recently changed: engine, trans, brake, differential. Some paint/body/interior work would turn car into a very nice driver as most of the mechanicals have been sorted out. But full restoration would be required to return to like new condition.

Engine -- Only 2500mi on the rebuild. Rebuilt by T&P Machine Shop in San Antonio. The guy that used to run the shop knew Pontiac's very well. Cylinders are bored 30 over on the orig block and a windage tray was added. Heads are older 7K3 units with the larger exhaust valves & smaller chambers for raised compression. Cam is streetable (steady idle, sufficient vacuum) but is more aggressive than any stock cam of that era. Intake is a ram air III unit without the EGR hump. Parts replaced: Flow Kooler alum. water pump, roller tip rockers, Powermaster high torque starter, reman distributor, performance ign coil, reman alternator, Delco fuel pump. Orig Q-jet carb was rebuilt by Brad Urban's Carb Shop.

Trans -- Automatic TH350. 2400 stall converter, shift improver kit, lower ratio first gear. Mr. Gasket V-matic console shifter with normal/ratchet mode.

Chassis -- Tires have good tread. Some of the things that have been replaced are the following: stainless dual exhaust, all 4 ball joints (TRW), Global West greaseable nylon ctrl arm bushings, black poly body mount bushings, black poly sway F&R bar bushings, front brake pads & reman calipers, rear brake shoes, F&R brake hoses, reman P/S pump, fuel tank sending unit, heater core, reman wiper motor. Steering gear is faster ratio '86 Monte Carlo SS unit (still have the orig). Differential is the stock limited-slip unit. I have a rear disc brake set up from a W6 TA that comes with the car(worth $500) but nothing wrong with the one in it. Stewart Warner Mechanical gauges.

Front fenders need a little work, driver's door has small bend on the bottom, missing front lower valance/spoiler which can be bought off Ebay; some small rust spots in following areas: trunk lid near rear spoiler, near rear window trim, front dash corners(not rusted through). The underneath of this car is exceptionally clean and overall This car is very solid!

PLEASE ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS PRIOR TO BIDDING. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH ME SEND YOUR NUMBER AND I WILL CALL YOU ASAP. I WELCOME YOU TO COME LOOK AT THE CAR OR TO HAVE SOMEONE INSPECT THE CAR PRIOR TO BIDDING. BY BIDDING AND WINNING THE AUCTION, YOU OWN THE CAR. CAR IS SOLD AS-IS WITH NO WARRANTY EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED (THIS SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING, THE CAR IS GOING ON 40 YEARS OLD). I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION AT ANYTIME.

BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL SHIPPING COST AND ARRANGEMENTS.

David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.

Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.

GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns

Sun, 05 Oct 2014

Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.
