1974 Pontiac Trans Am , Original  Owner , 39k miles

Recently removed from garage of original owner. Car was ordered new in March 1974 from Al Wilson Pontiac in Warminster PA. I have included a photo of the original dealer invoice showing factory options including , air conditioning , power windows , power door locks , tilt steering wheel , am/fm stereo , light package , power steering and rally wheels with raised white letter radial tires. If you look close at the invoice you will see it was supposed to be a 455 Super Duty , but changed his mind due to the additional cost. Insisting on a 4 speed trans , he had no choice but to opt for the 400 ci engine. The base 455 was only available with the auto trans. I was not able to find information on the trim code , since it appears it was a custom ordered combination. Everything in the interior is black, except for the seats , which are white. This is noted on the invoice in red stating "ADD CUSTOM INTERIOR". I was not able to find a build sheet under the rear seat , but I have not searched any where else. This Trans Am was driven daily for the first few years in stock form. I have an invoice showing 33120 miles on 07/23/76. From day one the owner had plans for his beloved Trans Am and it was not to keep it in stock form. Once the 80's rolled around , it was time to build the Trans Am he had always envisioned. Originality was not as big a concern in the 1980's , so the modifications were done in an attempt to enhance the looks and power of the Trans Am. A full fiberglass flair kit was installed. It does not appear anything was cut to install the flairs. They were riveted to the original wheel wells and molded into the body. The rear spoiler was also molded into the decklid and quarter panels. It was than sprayed in Candy Apple red paint. The rally wheels were the next to go in favor of deep dish Cragars with 50 series tires , front and rear. The body work has held up very well and the paint still shines , but it is checking over the entire car. The interior was not modified , except for the addition of a cassette player. Interior is very nice , with a just a couple splits in the front seats and needing a headliner. The factory am/fm stereo still remains. Always regretting not ordering the 455 , the 400 engine was the next to go. A 462 ci Pontiac engine was built , starting with a YC coded block. According to the receipt for the engine build , it has 11:1 compression , ported and polished heads , Crane hyd cam , Edlebrock dual quad intake manifold with dual Carter 500cfm AFB carbs. Once the engine was built , the factory hood was replaced with a fiberglass cowl induction hood to clear the dual quads. Unfortunately the original engine is long gone , but the original hood and shaker scoop is included in the sale and painted to match the car. The car has been sitting for over 10 years , so it is not road worthy at this time. The engine does run , but it has a significant oil leak. It appear to be from the rear main seal. It would need the normal maintenance and preparation you would expect for a car sitting this long. Fuel system , brakes etc. I also noticed the head of the drain plug snapped off at some point. It would need to be drilled out or oil pan replaced. The drivers side power window is not working. I am sure there are some items I may have forgotten , so please email any questions before bidding. I know the flares and custom paint may deter some people from bidding , but it appears they can be removed without damaging the factory sheet metal. Remember , it is still a ONE OWNER , 39K MILE , RUST FREE TRANS AM , LOADED WITH OPTIONS. Only 1750 Trans Ams were built with a 400ci and 4spd. How many were built with  the options this one has?  Vehicle is available for inspection during auction. Being sold as / is. Buyer is responsible to arranging and paying for shipping. Possible local shipping , but please contact me first. Title and vehicle will not be released until full payment is received.

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:

GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns

Sun, 05 Oct 2014

Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.
