Here for auction is an outstanding 1974 Pontiac Trans Am 455 with just 53,000 actual miles!
It is equipped with its original matching # 455 4 barrel engine, Turbo 400 automatic transmission and 3.08 posi-traction rearend. It has power steering and power disc brakes. It also has an original factory console mounted 8 track player , however the radio has been upgraded to an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette stereo. This T/A was ordered as a true muscle car, no unnecessary frills like A/C or power windows. Under the hood is uncluttered wall to wall Pontiac power! The 74' 455 T/A was the last of a breed, with true dual exhaust, and the stump pulling 067 camshaft. This particular 74' T/A has the rare feature of factory installed HEI ignition. I want to stress that this is how this car was built, and not an ignition "swap". 1975 was the first full year of GM's new High Energy Ignition or HEI in all V-8's. However Pontiac began installing the HEI in its V-8's built from May of 74' on. This car was built in May of 74'. One of the last 74' T/As produced! 1975 was a big letdown for true performance enthusiasts.
This is a solid rust-free car including floors and trunk pan. It was recently professionally refinished in the original color, Buccaneer red, with PPG urethane. This car is straight and smooth! Panel alignment is awesome. The doors close smooth and with ease. The color really "pops"! The car draws a crowd wherever I drive it.
The black interior is near perfect with minimal wear for a nearly 40 year old car. No rips ,tears, splits. No unusual odors. The dashboard is perfect, no cracks. Instrument panel is also near perfect, all gauges work properly. Carpet is clean, rear package shelf is nice.
Mechanically this T/A is strong and tight. The 455 fires right up and has the traditional Pontiac rumble of authority through its factory duals. This is not a Super Duty , but it is the next best thing, at a fraction of the price! The turbo 400 shifts crisp. this car runs and drives fantastic and will light the tires at will! There are no visible fluid leaks. you can drive this car anywhere with complete confidence.
The following parts were recently replaced;
New radiator ,hoses and thermostat
Fresh antifreeze
New battery and cables
Rebuilt starter
Correct original Rochester Quadra-jet carb professionally rebuilt
Complete ignition tune-up including new distributor cap, rotor , spark plugs and wires
New valve cover gaskets
Oil and filter change with Brad Penn Hi-zinc "Green" oil
New Monroe 'Gas- Matic" front shocks
Rear differential oil changed with limited slip lube added
4 new Futura GLS 255/60/R15 radials (less than 200 miles on these!) Mounted on factory rally wheels
Engine compartment completely detailed to factory original
The 74' Trans am is a piece of American Muscle car history. Purists claim it to be the last of a breed. Here is an opportunity to own a piece of that history. A true investment that you can enjoy while it grows in value. Try to get that from a bank!
I am a serious Pontiac enthusiast / collector. It breaks my heart to sell this beauty, but time space and money wont allow it. I have set a very realistic reserve ,considering the prices I have seen these cars bring. And remember this is a 53,000 mile #'s matching car! This Auto Aerobics car art ties our brains in knots like pretzels
Sat, 14 Dec 2013We like cars, and we like art. Naturally, Chris Labrooy's Auto Aerobics series - computer-generated images of some seriously contorted 1968 Pontiac Bonnevilles floating in mid-air - instantly clicked with us. If the Pontiacs weren't floating or hollow, we could be fooled into believing the image is real. But where's the fun in that?
Check out the gallery we included of Labrooy's Bonneville art, and feel free too head over to his website for some Formula One humor.
Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap
Tue, 30 Sep 2014Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
