Clear Nebraska title.  Drive it home this weekend.  Arizona car - - sat for 19 years.  Trailered up here from Tucson and has been in middle America for 18 months.  A blast to drive.  Alas, 3 kids in college next fall and a full driveway.

Sheet metal is surprisingly good for a car almost 50 years old:  trunk - - very good.  Interior floor - - some rust through on driver's floor.  Rear quarters - - A OK.  Rockers - - A OK.

326 V-8 in the car when it came north ... that engine died on the way to a regional car show.  Now the car has a fresh, machine-shop rebuilt Pontiac 400.  Some mild performance parts were added:  gear timing, mild cam, Holley carb, high-rise Edelbrock manifold, W-2 heads, distributor, stainless mufflers.  Also new gas tank, rear shocks, wiper motor.

As you've noticed, car has a GTO hood.  Arizona car, so it once had air conditioning (AC parts no longer around).  Dash pad tells the story that this buggy sat in the sun.  Headliner is gone.  Rear bench seat back - - upholstery deteriorated and removed, although the seat frame is here.  I think all exterior chrome is here but I haven't ordered new clips yet to install it.  At some point you will want to have the rear window channel blasted.  You can see a couple thumb-sized holes in driver side "flying buttress."  Tires are good.

I like the mid-60's Pontiacs and that classic coke-bottle A-body.  But sometimes it seems to me that the cars available for sale are either restored trailer-queens with pricetags in the stratosphere ... or rusted out and need 9 pieces of sheet metal. Then there are many for sale that are "almost ready" but just need ____________.  Or they are 2000 miles away from me.

So here's a road-ready car that you can drive all summer and work on next winter.  You could leave it as is for 5-10 years.  You need nothing to drive it the rest of the summer.  The front end is good and steering is tight.  The brakes are good.  The car downright flies when you step on it, and man, what a rumble (the shop welded Harley-Davidson chrome tips on for a little fun).  If you don't want people looking up when you rumble through an intersection, this car is not for you.

Gauges are not working.  Aftermarket under dash double gauge does work.  There is evidence of some bondo on driver's side upper rear quarter panel, but no dent is evident from inside the trunk so it does not seem to be deep.  I have tried to represent this car honestly and will answer any questions or take any pictures you ask for.  I hope that some will agree the price is fair.

This car is a builder, but they're not making any more of these.  Car is right in middle of the USA at the crossroads of I-80 and I-29.  I've worked for a decade to have a 100% eBay feedback rating, so don't bid if you don't have the cash right now.  $1000 PayPal down payment within 24 hours.

Price starts at $8500.  Enjoy the pics (I'll add a couple more this weekend).  Thanks for looking - - good hunting!

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.
