1977 Pontiac Lemans Can Am on 2040-cars

Year:1977 Mileage:132000
Location:

Conifer, Colorado, United States

Conifer, Colorado, United States

This auction is for a a rare 1977 Pontiac Lemans Can Am. One of 1377 sold in 1977.  The cars history is known since new. The car was sold new in Nebraska and came with the Pontiac 400 (TA 6.6) and Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The options included air conditioning, AM/FM/8 Track and the Can Am package which included the white paint, graphics kit, G80 limited slip rear, the (low altitude) TA6.6 Pontiac 400 coupled to the Turbo 400 automatic, Radial Tuned Suspension, Rally II wheels, shaker hood and the infamous duck tail spoiler.

While the car was sold new in Nebraska it spent almost all of its life in and around Denver, CO.  Sometime in the late 80's the engine threw a rod through the water jacket and the car was refitted with a 1976 Grand Prix 455 V8 and the transmission from the 455 as well.  In 1990 a bent push rod caused the owner to park the car in a storage locker for the next twenty one years.  The car shows 132,000 miles on the odometer and I have been told by the original owner that that is correct.

The car is in need of a complete rebuild and needs paint, engine, interior including dash restoration, carpet and seats.  All parts are present.  The car is virtually rust free.  The frame, rockers, floor pans, fenders, quarters (right side behind tire has a spot of rust about 1/4" in diameter),  hood and deck lid are very solid with no rust through.. For the most part the car only needs blasting/sanding, door ding repairs and paint.  Trim is decent but could use some polish and a couple of small dent repairs. Car could use a full set of weatherstripping.   The drivers side door was dented in a parking lot in the mid 80's and re-skinned.  It has rust at the bottom of the door. At the time of the door re-skin both lower sides of the car were repainted. Included in the auction is a replacement drivers side door from a 1977 Lemans in excellent condition with no rust and original green paint.

The black padded dash is in very bad condition although possibly restoreable but also included in the auction is a full dash in Red from another Can Am. The black front seats need restoring and two extra Can Am Parchment seats are included.

Along with the 1976 455 that is in the car, the original engine and transmission are included as well as a 1978 Pontiac TA6.6 out of a 1978 Trans Am.  Another Pontiac Turbo 400 from another Can Am is included.  The 455 ran when I purchased it and it moved under its own power onto a trailer and into the garage.  The 455 currently has the intake and heads sitting in place but not installed.

There is a full set of 3M brand Can Am graphics from Phoenix Graphics included.  These have been stored in the house and are in the container they came in.  They appear to be like new. I don't know if they have a shelf life but they at least four years old.

The car comes with a clear title and some original paperwork including the original sales invoice and some factory documents stating this Can Am's authenticity.

I have had the car for a few years and started collecting parts and started to remove the engine.  Too many other projects got in the way and I have decided to sell this Can Am.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile

Sun, 29 Apr 2012

Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."
