1968 Pontiac Lemans on 2040-cars

Year:1968 Mileage:122000
Location:

Tacoma, Washington, United States

Tacoma, Washington, United States

I'm going to begin with the only bad news on the car...there is no title. Again, car does not come with an actual title. But, car will come with 4 bills of sale back to the 1980's and a registration. Yes, the car is completely legal to drive. In the state of Washington, a title can be obtained after the car is inspected, VIN checked and after a 3 years waiting period. The VIN is clean. The car has been inspected by the Washington State highway patrol and passed. The car was then registered in June 2013. So, in June 2016, I will have a title. In the meantime the car can be registered and driven normally, just no paper title. The car can also be sold and the new owner can register it in his/her name and wait out the REMAINDER of the 3-year period IF they live in Washington. If not, some states with honor this so please check your state. Or you can obtain a title through a title company as the car is clean, not rebuilt, not salvaged and never altered...

1968 Pontiac LeMans 2 door hardtop. Completely original condition as it came from the factory. But the engine and transmission are not matching. They are however the same year and code as original. This is not a Sprint model, just the base OHC 1 bbl. It gets good gas mileage, always starts, stops and handles very well.

The body is is excellent shape. I sanded the car to it's original Verdoro Green paint and found hardly any rust. There were dents here and there but no major collisions. All the body panels are original except the trunk lid and panel below the rear window which is a repro piece I installed due to rust there. The car never had a vinyl top. The trunk lid is off a GTO so there are no PONTIAC emblem holes. The lid is in real nice condition.

The floors are in great shape and original as is the trunk floor. There is 2 small rust holes in the trunk floor and some rust scale but not severe at all. The frame is excellent: no rust or damage.

The engine runs very well. It was rebuilt long ago. I recently had hardened exhaust valve seats installed. It runs very strong. The transmission is a Saginaw 3-speed and it doesnt make any noises, pop out of gear or grind.

The car has manual drum brakes and manual steering. The brakes work very well. The steering is a bit stiff in parking lots but it does have wide tires on it.

The car has an original AM/FM radio in it that works great. According to the PHS documents that I obtained and go with the car, it also had an 8-track player! But it was gone when I got the car. The steering wheel is wrong, I dont have the correct one. The interior needs a complete redo. The carpet is new. The factory clock sometimes works, but most of the time it does not. The horn and windshield washers don't work. everything else works.

Overall, this is a great car for a full restoration,GTO clone, or to build up to your own liking.

I understand that buying a car in primer is not wise. And I would probably be hesitant to bid on the car because "who knows whats under that primer?" But I will tell you in complete honesty, the is NOT a rust bucket or a hacked up, bondo filled automobile. Yes, there is body filler. but NO filler over rust or body panels 'formed' with bondo!! The body fits are very good. The car can be primed, blocked ONCE and painted and it will look beautiful. But if the new owner views the car before payment and doesnt like it, no problem. He/she will not be obligated to buy it, no questions asked!

Any questions? Need more pics?  No sweat, ask away!  Set at very low reserve.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.

GM recalls 61k more vehicles in three campaigns

Sun, 05 Oct 2014

Following a stop-delivery order for its new midsize trucks and a rash of recent recalls, General Motors is issuing three more campaigns covering 60,575 vehicles in North America with 57,182 of them in the US. As of October 1, the automaker has issued a total of 74 recalls (see the ridiculously long chart to the right) this year covering 26,495,070 units in the US.
The largest campaign covers 46,873 examples in the US of the 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 and 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle imported from Australia. It's possible for the driver's knee to hit the key and make it move from the "Run" to "ACC" position while driving. GM says its Holden division is developing a fixed-blade key that's supposed to fix the problem by only allowing it to rotate toward the "On" position. There has been one crash caused by this fault but no injuries or fatalities.
The second recall is for 10,005 units of the 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V because "the fuel pump module electrical terminal may overheat." This can cause a flange to melt and allow the pump to leak fuel. GM specifies that the remedy for the CTS-V is replacing the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, but it doesn't specify how the STS-V is being repaired.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.
