1965 Pontiac LeMans Convertible

Would Make an Awesome 65 GTO Convertible Clone

Car is for local pick up only in Mtn. Home, Arkansas (Baxter County).  All transportation arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer.  Car is sold as is, where is.

Convertible was bought by a Pontiac collector and had sat in the same spot for 20 years.  There is no title, it is being sold on a bill of sale.

Car is in need of a complete restoration.  On the upside, the sky’s the limit as to what this could bring when finished, but it will take a lot of work.  Was hoping a body man / pro builder who is willing to invest the sweat equity would find this ad.

LeMans has very good floor pans, door sills, and convertible top storage area.

Frame on car is as clean as the floor pans, only surface rust.

Trunk lid looks good, but inside trunk pan and rear quarters need work.

Has factory hood and GTO hood.

Rally wheels.

Previous owner said block is a 326 (casting number at top rear is B 9778840).  He was not sure of the automatic trans ID.

Has some trim pieces (see photos), one extra driver’s door, front fenders and inner fenders, grill, rear bumper.

I will not sell any parts individually, they all go with this car.

Car was rolling 20 years ago, but rear end is froze right now.  Previous owner checked brakes and pulled axels, so the ring and pinion are locked.  He filled with lube, sealed and thought it would break free when pulled, but didn’t (not enough car weight to break friction, my opinion).  So, keep in mind it may have to be dragged onto trailer.

Would make an awesome 65 GTO convertible.

Trim code tag says it’s a 65 LeMans convertible, black interior, cameo ivory paint.

VIN number tag is on the driver’s door jam, but that is for the new owner only.

PayPal deposit of $300 due within 24 hours of auction end.  Balance due within 7 days, cash or bank transfer, no PayPal (PayPal is only for deposit).

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.

GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes

Mon, 01 Oct 2012

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.
