Offered at no reserve is this classic GTO project which comes with most parts and the numbers matching WK 400 w/7K3 heads and a correct 4 speed trans.

Exterior: Car was originally Sundance Orange.  All panels are present, but need attention.  There is rust on right & left sides trunk pan (center seems solid). Deck lid will need replacement. There is rust in both quarters behind rear wheels with the left side having previous body work that is busted and rust in front of wheel. The doors on car seem straight, but have rust and/or bondo in the bottom sections. 2 extra solid Arizona doors come with car, but have several dents.  The fenders have some dents which should be visible in pictures and both have had metal patches welded in at the bottoms.  The hood has surface rust on the under side (looks like possibly sandblasted and not protected afterward) which looks like would clean up nicely.  It has had some filler for dents in the scoop which is broken and surface rust now.  It does not appear to have any rust through or kinks along the sides like most.  The endura bumper and lower valance look to be in good shape with some pitting on the grilles and park light bezels.  The car originally had vinyl top with the main top looking solid. The windshield and rear window chrome have not been removed, so I can't speak for window channel condition.  There is rust in the lower cowl side panels.  The core support will need extensive metal work on bottom or replaced. The rear bumper will need reconditioned or replaced as well as tail lamps.  It has the 70-71 style rear valance with cutouts.  After removing the carpet, left front floor pan was found to need replaced or patched. There is a hole/gouge in the right rear floor pan where it starts to go under rear seat. I have 4 14x7 JJ code rally 2 wheels that have already been sandblasted, primed & ready for paint with nice caps and decent rings.

Interior: Car has the original basic black bench seat interior. The GTO door panel emblems have torn off (one was in car, but pitted). The whole interior will need restored from top to bottom. One might be able to save the door panels with some cleaning & TLC. The glass seems in good condition.

Mechanical: Engine is apart and will need rebuilt. I have a crank that has already been machined and new cam/lifter kit from GM performance parts as well as new Flow Tech headers and engine mounts. Not sure if transmission is original to car, but is an aluminum case with the large rear shaft and fine spline front shaft complete with shifter & related parts. I have a new Perfection clutch/pressure plate kit.  I assume the rear end to be the original open 3.55 gear. The rear sway bar has been removed at some point in favor of ladder bars.  The gas tank will need replaced. Car rolls freely, but brakes are not working.

There are probably lots of details I have forgotten, so please ask questions before bidding.  The front is currently off car and engine apart.  These items could be put back in and on to make moving it easier if necessary.  Please see photos for details & contact me if further info or additional pictures are needed.  The car will need to be towed/hauled. I will not ship the vehicle. However I will be happy to help in loading if needed.  Any moving/shipping costs will be at the expense of the buyer.  Car must be picked up within 3 days of auction's end unless other arrangements are made as we are moving.

Please keep in mind that this is a rough project car and will need lots of work.  Thanks for looking and happy bidding

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
