1969 Pontiac Gto Convertible on 2040-cars

For sale is my 1969 Pontiac GTO convertible. I am the documented third owner of this low mile GTO convertible and the car has spent its entire life in the dry climates of Arizona, Nevada and California. The prior owner I purchased the car from owned it since 1973. He worked in Saudi Arabia for most of his career and so the car was not driven often. The car was recommissioned by the former owner before I purchased it, but I have since had it completely serviced and driven it often.

The body and paint is in nice presentable condition and I get a lot of thumbs ups, however, if I could keep it I would repaint it and repair the minor dings and dents. Right now it is a "10 footer" as they say meaning it looks great from that distance. It was repainted some 8 years ago in what looks like a less expensive single stage yellow. The car is originally Mayfair Maize (yellow) which is a more pale version of what is on the car. This color is the late model GTO yellow which is more like a Corvette yellow.

The interior is original and 45 years old so its aged but I like it that way. It has a power top where the motor and top has been replaced. Roll up windows, right rear needs a little work or a new track.

The engine is amazing and I would (and have) driven this car anywhere. Recently in the heat it went up to about 210 degrees and held in LA traffic. I had a local shop rework the engine and tune things up and the car starts on the first try and choke on the rebuilt original Quadrajet is perfect. It's a beast.

As for what it needs- I would do the front bushings and suspension as my next project. (probably lower it too). (-:

It has brand new tires and wheels on it (15x7 Pontiac mags).

This is a really nice low mile driver that with just a few things could go back to all original or be upgraded/restomod to your customized cruiser.

I am only selling this because I have some financial obligations to meet and am very hesitant given the amount of money I have put into this nice car. The buy it now is LESS than what I have paid for it and that does not include all the repairs and upgrades. This is a great low mile collector car, and a dry west coast rust free GTO.

Good luck!

David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.

GM expands ignition switch recall to over 1.3 million cars amid climbing death toll

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

588,000 Saturn Sky, Saturn Ion, Pontiac Solstice and Chevy HHR models join the 778,000 cars already being recalled.
General Motors has announced a massive expansion of a 778,000-unit recall we told you about two weeks ago, doubling not only the total number of cars affected but expanding the recall beyond Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 models previously mentioned. The recall originally centered around ignition switches that could slip out of the "run" position if jostled or if any weight was applied to the key in the cylinder.

GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes

Mon, 01 Oct 2012

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.
