On July 22, 1967 Jimmy Perkins, a US Army Sgt. from Fromberg, Montana took delivery of a Gulf Turquoise 1967 GTO HO Convertible from Mac Intyre Pontiac, in Billings Montana while he was on leave from the Vietnam Conflict .This car was Jimmys' dream car. He babied it and stored it under a cover while he was on deployement only putting a few thousand miles on it. In the summer of 1970, Jimmy Perkins was killed in combat by enemy fire earning himself a bronze star, posthumously. This car was parked front and center at Jimmys' funeral, the cabin being filled with flowers from a town that lost one of it's favorite sons.

The car then sat for another year and was traded in  by Jimmys' mother on a 1972 Pontiac Station Wagon.

The car sat in the showroom of the Pontiac dealer for years, but the story of the town behind the car would not allow the owner to sell the car. In lieu of that, he kept the car. Driving it sparingly and keeping it in top shape. Unfortunately due to declining health and business, the Pontiac dealer closed about 7 or 8 years ago. The car still has the sign from the Pontiac dealership where it was stored for decades, in a climate controlled environment...in the trunk.

The car is now being offered for the first time to the public.

The car is as original as it can possibly be. All original inspection markings and stampings are all pretty much still there. The rear springs and shocks were replaced, belts, hoses, battery, brake parts, exhaust, tires and due to the car being stored in a showroom with the top down for decades, the convertible top was also replaced. The car has not a ding nor a dent, has to my knowledge never had any paint work and is absolutely perfectly rust free and dry. There is one tiny chip in the paint at the edge of the drivers side door. Every single accessory and light and gauge works as it should. The chrome and brightwork as as nice as NOS.

The interior looks like it was never used! The only defect I could ascertain is one crack in the rim of the steering wheel.

This car looks like it is brand new. The transmission was out once to verify the #'s on top of the trans and to replace the rear main seal and replace the clutch for good measure.

This car is not going to sell cheap. I refuse to give this car away. This car is the cream of the crop in unrestored, unmolested, shape.

Call me on my cell at 312 622 7533 as this car is for sale locally and auction can and will be ended at any time in the event of a local sale.

Clean and clear title in hand.

Car includes every bit of documentation you can imagine. Protecto Plate, old registrations, ect.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
