This car is currently located in Glendale Colorado and, aside from the fact that it will probably only be able to drive up a flat-bed tow truck before it dies, it's not too bad.

When I purchased the car in 2011, I was unaware that the thermostat was inoperative, which caused the radiator not to run, which made it crack and burst several months later. I used a pour-in sealant to buy some time for me to get it repaired, but I fear that the remnants of the sealant have been continuing to cause issues to this day. Since I bought it,

The radiator has been replaced.
The air conditioner has been repaired
The thermostat has been replaced
The radio has been upgraded, but that means the buttons on the steering wheel no longer work.

That said, due to the overheating issues the thermostat may be dead again. The oil and transmission fluid was changed less than 2000 miles ago. The service station has reported that

There is an oil pan gasket leak.
There is a transmission fluid leak.
There is a power steering fluid leak.
There may be a coolant leak.
The heat shield rattles against the engine when it is running.

Furthermore, the I believe the last owner did something strange with the wiring, much of it has been cleared up, but there are still a few wiring problems that interfere with the tail lights working properly. I believe this destroyed the onboard computer.

If you are still reading this, then I am pleased. As you can see, what I am trying to sell is a project car. Aside from the computer, everything I've mentioned is fairly simple fix for someone who has the time and inclination to do so. The only reason I don't drive it to work anymore is because I'm tired of fixing the overheating problem. I don't have the time to work out this radiator/thermostat deal again, but that's the only stopper from getting it running again. I've never experienced any issues while it's driving, either I've fixed everything or identified the problems (like the heat shield rattling). Everything else is in pretty good condition. That said, this car is an "As Is" sale. I've done my best to explain all the issues I'm aware of, but I'm not responsible if I missed one, or if it falls off your tow truck before you get back. So if you're interested, let me know. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, and if you don't like the sounds of it, then don't bother. I'd rather this car go to someone who wants to work on it than melt it down, but I'm going back to college and I need the money now.
Remember, you'll have to pick it up in a flatbed, I'm not bringing it to you. Also, it's titled in NC, which requires ownership changes to be done in front of a notary. So we're need to my bank to complete the transaction. It's registered in the state of Colorado, and that means that it has passed an emissions test which is valid until 7/23/2014.

GM issues four new recalls, 2.4 million cars affected

Tue, 20 May 2014

General Motors has announced another set of recalls, covering some 2.42 million cars in the United States. For those keeping track, The General has now recalled over 15 million cars worldwide this year due to various issues.
Here's the breakdown for this most recent set of recalls:
1,339,355 - Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia models from the 2009 to 2014 model years; Saturn Outlook models from the 2009 to 2010 model years

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.
