1959 Pontiac Bonneville Sports Coupe, 2-Door Hardtop, 389 V-8 with 4-Speed hydra-matic  transmission, 4-BBlL carb and dual exhaust.  This Sillicon Valley CA car has 131k original miles on it, it had 124k miles on it when I purchased it in 1994.  The Bonnie is very straight and the trim and body line are very good.  The car has Power Brakes and Power Steering and lots of power which makes it a pleasure to drive. Frame on reastoration work started shortly after I purchased the car.  The engine was completely rebuilt and it now has less than 7k miles on it, it runs great and has plenty of power.  The transmission was rebuilt in 2007 to fix excessive leaks and thus has only about 1k miles on it.  The seats were  reparied/replaced  using original Green 3-Tone  very rare woven materials.  Side panels, padded dash and rear shelf were redone using original Green vinyl materials.  The headsliner and the carpet were replaced with materials not original for that car because I was not able to locate the correct ones at that time.  However, this does not seem to matter because the interior is stunning and received "Best Interior" award at the Redwood Indian Pontiac show in 1996 (see picture of the award). The trunk floor had some rust and was replaced.  Lower quarter panel rust repair was also done prior to car repaint in the white Acrylic Lacquer paint, paint code is GM  "CC" (Cameo Ivory).  Door and trunk seals were replaced, all glass and seals are the original that came with the car. The car came equiped with a number of options as shown in the attache picture showing the lower portion of the original window sticker.  I recently added a trunk light.  To my knowlege all options and equipment on the car works well, recently I had to replace the Power Antenna which was broken with another "Casco" unit which appears to have come from an older car.  The radio and both front and rear speakers work well.  I have noticed that the dash clock does not work. The Bonneville introduced the Pontiac's lasting design language like a split grille, it also gave birth to the Wide Track design, the brand's engineers logically concluded that the wide wheel base provided better stability and in particular better race track performance.  This proved to be the case and I am told that this feature contributed much to the Pontiac brand's success in subsequent years.  This first Wide Track model was named Car of the Year by the Motor Trend magazine in 1959. The car has remained in the Silicon Valley area since I purchased the car.  While in my posesion, it has been garaged and I do not believe that it has ever been in a rain shower. This is a great car that can be driven by anybody because of the power options, it is a pleasure to drive the car.  The reason I am selling the car is because I am running out of space on my property.  I have purchased several 1960 Chevrolets that I restoring as a hobby.  Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this auction, I will be happy to provide more information, I do have several digital files of supporting original documents I have that I can forward if desired.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.

Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.

Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day

Thu, 07 Jun 2012

Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.
