For Sale, 1979 Plymouth Volare Roadrunner 2 owner dry western survivor car will all documentation and full maintenance records. Spitfire Orange, 318 automatic with new 2.5" flowmaster exaust, buckets, console, 8-track, tuff wheel, all the good stuff. Truly a unique opportunity, same owner for 33 years. I recently purchased from the elderly gentleman that bought the car from the local dealership here in town when it was a few months old with 7k miles in April of 1980 - all docs are there. The car was stored inside it's entire life and lovingly maintained. It was used as a second "road car" and nice day cruiser and not as a primary commuter. The PO drove the car to Mexico shortly after purchase to see the sights and there is still a "tourista" sticker on the passenger window from the trip.   I'll do my best to describe this rare car below:

Exterior: All original in the very desirable Spitfire Orange with one repaint in the 1980's. NO RUST that I can see and I know where to look. There is no salt used in the high desert of Montana and in this arid region of sagebrush and prickly pear cactus we only get a total of 10 inches of moisture annually. Repaint was due to a hail storm and the car received minor damage, as far as I know only the hood was replaced. Paint was an everyday main street auto body shop quickie job, and is not concours quality, but shines well and there are no major flaws or issues. Great driver quality/weekend show/cruise night car. Original flat black trim and silver stripes show a bit of fading. Underside of hood is painted flat black instead of body color. Glass is excellent. Small dent low on passenger side rocker where the PO ran over a curb. Grille has two broken spots, not really that noticeable but I would watch for a mint one to replace it. Hood moulding has a few dings. Really no major issues to jump in and enjoy today.

Interior: All original in very good condition with only driver seat showing a few tears from use. Repairs to driver seat would be needed for serious show duty. Balance of interior is nice in the deluxe black with the tuff wheel and WORKING AM/8-track with a few 8 tracks included. No major issues to use and enjoy today.

Mechanical: Exceptionally well maintained original. There is a stack of maintenance receipts going back to 1980 when the car was a few months old. Anything that needed attention was done and done right. Engine/trans in great working order, what you would expect from a well maintained 100k mile car. Starts and runs out strong. No major issues. EVERYTHING WORKS as far as I can tell. I just took the car on a 70 mile cruise last Sunday. Recent complete tune up, newer battery and brand new tires. Engine does puff a bit when started due to 35 year old valve seals, and there is sometimes a slight valvetrain tick at cold startup that goes away when warmed, but should run many many more miles without any issue or rebuild. NEW 2.5" aluminized Flowmaster exhaust sounds fantastic and gives the car that musclecar sound to go with the looks. Just a comfortable, good handling car that with the factory high rear gear will loaf along at 75mph all day, and with the factory lockup converter deliver excellent fuel economy. The ONLY thing I can find that doesn't work as new is the wipers do not return to the low position every time. THE CAR IS AUCTIONED WITH THE FACTORY HONEYCOMB WHEELS AND NEW BLACKWALL TIRES. IF YOU LIKE THE MAGNUM WHEELS, PLEASE CONTACT ME AND WE CAN TALK ABOUT INCLUDING THEM.

Pricing and misc: The last two Volare Roadrunners on Ebay (in just the last month) went $10k for the Petty Blue one and the Metallic blue car bid to $14k with reserve not met. I got a good deal on this car, and you will too, so the reserve is under $8k. You can't begin to buy a builder and do a car to this level for that money, and when you got done it wouldn't be an original survivor car like this one. There just is nothing like a pampered car that hasn't been beat on! AS MENTIONED ABOVE THE CAR IS BEING SOLD WITH THE OEM HONEYCOMB WHEELS AND THE MAGNUM ROAD WHEELS WITH WHITE LETTER TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED. WINNING BIDDER CAN NEGOTIATE INCLUDING OR SUBSTITUTING THEM. I will be adding more pictures.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.
