There were 7,268 1972 Roadrunners produced. Of these, 3,828 were sold with the P-code E68 400 4 bbl HP engine. Also of the 3,828 sold, only 906 were sold with the factory 4 speed. So we are looking at a 1 of 906 rarity. This car was a weekend warrior at the local strip. The owner before me drove it to the strip, took slicks from the trunk and raced it for the day then drove it home. This 400 runs good and has plenty of pep. It has a 3:55 sure grip 489 casting rear end. Throaty dual exhaust exiting all the way out back. I acquired this car with the extended fender flares on ALL fenders. The black paint has small bubbles all over it and the body has a few dents here and there. There is NO floor/trunk rust that I know of. I keep this car inside as did the previous owner. This car is definitely no show car, but is a runner and driver. I take it out on weekends to dust off the back roads and it's so much fun to grab gears in. The transmission is #'s matching. I do know where locally there is a date coded 1972 HP 400 if buyer is interested in getting closer to #'s matching. Block would cost extra. Power steering, not power brakes- but- drums all the way around. Steers good and brakes good. Recently replaced master cylinder. Because of the vehicle's age, it is being sold in AS-IS WHERE-IS condition without warranty expressed or implied. This is a great start for a restoration or just a great entry level muscle car that gets lots of looks. Clear title, can drive up onto transport vehicle. This is listed locally and I reserve the right to end auction early in case of a sale locally. |

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books
Thu, 25 Sep 2014The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.
SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own
Wed, 19 Dec 2012Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars
Sat, 18 Jan 2014The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson.
