1971 Plymouth Gtx - 440 Muscle - No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1971 Mileage:67005 Color: is also quite beautiful
Location:

Columbia, Connecticut, United States

Mechanically perfect Plymouth GTX.  440 cu in motor rebuilt last year to better than OEM specs.  250 miles on the engine.  Body is straight.  No rust, not even underneath.  Never driven in rain.  Always stored indoors.  Car is not numbers matching, but its condition is so nice it won the Manchester, CT car show last year - I'll even throw in the trophy when you take possession of the car.  This is a vehicle that turns heads and starts conversations.  There's approximately 67,005 miles on the car.  I say approximately because the car is in storage, and not immediately available for me to check the odometer.  The photo showing the odometer was taken some weeks before I put it in storage, so there's bound to be a few more miles than the photo shows. If you're a serious buyer, shoot me a message and I'll respond with the actual mileage and a photo of the current odometer.

Interior is very nice.  All instruments have been upgraded with new faces, electronics and wiring.  Seats and carpet are essentially new.  Modern AM/FM radio with USB port for your portable device (that way you can play your 70s music while driving).  Door panels do show some wear, but they are very easily replaced should you decide to do so.  Just pop them off, and put the new ones on.  It's that simple.

Exterior is also quite beautiful.  New chrome all around.  Paint is in excellent shape, with hard shell wax applied before it was put in storage last November (it doesn't get driven in Connecticut from November through May due to road salt and other chemicals applied during winter weather).

A bit about the car's price.  This is a NO RESERVE auction.  The starting price is less than the average retail value of this type of car (see final photo showing NADA values for this vehicle).  So, I'm starting the auction at $24,000.  If you get it for that price, you've truly gotten it for a steal, considering the average price is over $30,000 and this car is WAY above average.  So I'd ask you to consider these factors as you bid.  71s like this don't become available every day.

Known issues:
- Right turn signal does not work.  It's been diagnosed by my auto electric guy as a turn switch issue.  I've got the replacement switch that goes in the steering column, and will include the switch with the car.  It's a simple fix.  If it were a different time of year, I'd get it done for you, but I won't drive the car until road conditions improve.
- Interior fan (heat/defrost) does not work.  This is a small issue, but wanted to bring it to your attention.

This car is very strong.  You can come drive it home, though I'd recommend shipping it given the time of year.

Check the photos!

I've attempted to describe the vehicle as accurately as I can.  Feel free to ask questions.  PLEASE ask questions.  :-)

3/10/14 UPDATE:  I received a note from someone who viewed the auction page.  He noted that GTXs only came with 440s, so the price bump (for having a 440) indicated by the NADA screen shot misled me to believe that the average price for these cars is a bit higher than it actually is.  So, I've lowered the auction starting price to $22,000.  Happy bidding!

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
