Here's the car's story: In 2009 it was shipped to Japan as a stock unrestored "C" engine 1970 Barracuda. I know this because I was the shipper. The buyer planned to restore it and add it to his collection of American cars. In 2011 it was at a restoration shop 350 Kilometers away from the collection when the tsunami hit Japan. 8 cars and a 1946 Harley-Davidson were washed away and buried in mud. They've never been found. The Barracuda at the shop was the sole survivor. The shop's owner Mr. Tokunaga wanted to help his customer and has done so by donating countless hours of his time to the restoration of this car. His company MADE IN USA CO., LTD. is known in Japan for building high quality American muscle cars and race cars. At the Motegi Street Shootout in 2012 his '89 Firebird took first place in the pro class. In 2013 his 1970 Challenger won Best of Show at the American Sunday Car Show. This year his '89 Firebird took 2nd place at the Motegi Street Shootout. He's been at it since 1994. These photos were shot at the Fuji Speedway.

What you have here is an absolutely beautiful 1970 Barracuda meticulously put together by a Japanese builder with an eye for exacting standards. The purchase price includes the cost of shipping it from Japan to Los Angeles, and all U.S. Customs clearance charges. It comes with a Missouri Title that came with the car originally. It can registered just like any car bought in the U.S. You can pick it up in L.A. or have it trucked to your city. If you choose to truck it you will be responsible for the transport charges. The winning bidder will be required to post a $2,000.00 deposit within 48 hrs. But because of additional 3 - 4 weeks to get it here from Japan, the balance of the funds will not be required within 14 days. '71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
