1970 Plymouth Barracuda convertible. 318 3 speed manual on floor, 3.23 suregrip, power steering, rally dash, light group, rim blow wheel, 6 way seat, rally wheels, manual top, 11X3 drums on all 4 wheels.
This was a real barn find complete with many mouse nests. Stored away for many years. Older amateur paint and body work. I removed the rug to check floors and all look nice. The trunk floor has surface rust with a few spots that have gone through. Previous owner made the small patches held in by silicon. Bottom is nice and solid. Quarter panels have the usual rot. There is bondo in them. Doors, rockers and fenders look good. Unibody and braces look good. Area in the firewall where there is early rot from mouse nest.  Car runs and drives decent. Here is a list of parts I installed, and repairs I did to make it driveable:
New high quality plated gas tank, grommets, and new brass float. All new correct tank vent lines.
Water pump, fuel pump, filter, fuel line to carb, and cooling hoses/ correct clamps.
Grease, Oil and filter change. Top off tranny and differential. Pack front wheel bearings.
Nos master cylinder, front brake hoses, front brake shoes.
New alternator bearings.

Took lots of pictures and welcome questions. Car is registered and I drove it a few miles around town. The muffler is getting load, but is sounds real nice. Sounds like a 340!
Upper A arm bushings look worn so front end needs alignment, missing 1 rally wheel trim ring. Rear main seal drips, radio works but needs a speaker, tachometer works but jumps around a lot. Rest of guages work perfect. Engine runs smooth with good oil pressure, no smoke or blowby. Differential is tight, and has no leaks.
Convertible top is deteriorated and needs replacement. Car comes with a new black top, pads and a new glass rear window for you to install.
Interior is fair as shown. I installed new sill plates. Bumper jack and all parts are there. No spare tire.
All in all a decent old car thats very tough to find that needs a little TLC.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'Blood Muscle' auction to sell impressive collection of ill-begotten classic cars

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

The old saying goes that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. But being a criminal can involve more than just taking a trip to the big house; it can also mean losing possessions purchased from any ill-gotten gains. Still, one man's loss is another's gain, and if you're in Lodi, NJ, on September 12, you stand the chance to buy some of the ultimate muscle cars from the US Marshals in what is being gruesomely nicknamed the Blood Muscle auction.
The grisly moniker was earned because all of the vehicles belonged to the president of a blood testing company who is facing prison time for alleged bribery, according to Hemmings. After all, they are muscle cars bought with actual blood money. The seven-vehicle collection includes some of the ultimate muscle cars ever made, and the original buyer clearly had an eye for rarity.
This cornucopia of V8 power includes a teal 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, an orange 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible and perhaps most prized of all - a trio of 1969 Yenko Chevys with a Chevelle, Nova and Camaro all represented. From the included photos, all of them look to be in fantastic condition.
