1994 Dodge Colt ES 4-door
I am the 57 year-old original owner of this 212,xxx mile car.
The oil and filter have been changed every 3,000 miles, the last ten years with synthetic blend.
It has made a 40 mile round trip every day, 35 of those being interstate miles.
The car runs great, shifts great, drives great, handles like new, and gets 30 mpg.
It uses a quart of oil in about 2,000 miles.
It has a new battery and a fairly new distributor.
The timing belt was replaced at 164,xxx miles, the same time a new head gasket was installed.
Mechanically, I feel the car is excellent and the winner can plan on driving it home.

The paint and interior are original. The spoiler , door handles, and bumper covers are either dull or flaking, the hood has typical chips, the headlights aren't too faded.  The interior is splitting and there are some stains, but not bad overall.  The A/C and cruise work, along with the Pioneer stereo and the remote mirrors. There was a minor accident involving the drivers side, primarily the rear door.  The front door has minor damage, the rear door probably should be replaced.  I did an online search and there's plenty of doors out there. The doors and windows still function correctly.  The trunk is clean, with the original spare There are no oil or coolant drips or leaks and it's all original and unaltered under the hood.  The brakes are good.  Fairly new Raybestos pads on the front.

I had not planned on selling this car, but I had been looking for a 2005-2006 Corolla XRS and finally found one 200 miles from here and bought it.  Because I was planning on keeping the Colt, and before I found the XRS,  I bought new 205/60R16 Michelins for the Colt and had the 16x7.5 ICW wheels refinished at the same time. I have had these wheels for about ten years and they are true and balance well. The tuner lug nut adapter is included.   The tires and refinished wheels have less than 500 miles on them. The wheels were professionally refinished: media blasted and two-part base/clear used.  They look like new.

Mechanically, this car is A-1.  This is a 100% Japanese-made car and it proves the theories about Japanese cars being longevity champs. It needs nothing mechanically, buy it and drive it  immediately. I have most of the service records.  The original 14" steel wheels, plastic wheelcovers, and worn-out tires are included with the car, if wanted.

Please look closely at the pictures and email me with any questions you have.  You should inspect this car in person before bidding.  The high bidder will be expected to buy the car. Please don't win the auction then decide you don't want it.

There is, of course, no warranty, and the car must be picked up locally, or if shipping is desired, the buyer will need to arrange that.

Mitsubishi denies plans for Toyota/Subaru rival sports coupe

Tue, 23 Oct 2012

Forgive us for being wistful, but there was a time when Mitsubishi coupes and sports cars were the downright awesome. The 1990s brought us the all-wheel drive, turbocharged Eclipse GSX and the twin-turbocharged 3000GT VR-4 (seen here). The times, they were good.
Fast-forward to today, and the Lancer Evolution exists as Mitsubishi's sole, true performance offering. Mitsubishi killed off the Eclipse last year, by which time it had lost much the luster of its predecessors. With an affordable Japanese sports car fomenting underway thanks to Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, one may think that it's an ideal time for a brand like Mitsubishi to jump back into the performance coupe game. A rear-drive Mitsubishi sports car to take on the Toyobaru twins could be just what the brand needs to gain some mindshare among consumers.
Not so, says Osamu Masuko. The president and executive director of Mitsubishi told reporters at the Sydney Motor Show, "Our engineers are very prominent to investigate new technologies, but to use that technology they are not that good to bring the revenue to make that money." Read: the engineers want to do it, but the company does not find it to be financially responsible.

Mitsubishi NA gets new president and CEO

Thu, 06 Feb 2014

Last week, we told you that Mitsubishi will be getting a new global president, with Osamu Masuko stepping aside in favor of Tesuro Aikawa. The executive changes at the Japanese automaker are hitting closer to home, now, with official word that Mitsubishi Motors North America is getting a new president and CEO, as well. Effective March 1, Ryujiro Kobashi will take over for Yoichi Yokozawa, 49, who has been in charge since April of 2011. Yokozawa is headed back to Japan, where he will assume a spot in the company's corporate planning offices.
Kobashi, 53, has been with Mitsubishi since 1983 when he was fresh out of college. Previous to taking the top job in North America, he was installed as corporate general manager of the NA office at Mitsubishi's headquarters in Japan, where he coordinated regional operations for the US, Canada and Mexico. Before that, he held posts in planning, marketing, advertising and public relations for the company.
Kobashi takes over the company's North American operations at a pivotal time, when the region is finally showing signs of life after a prolonged period of stagnation. As Automotive News notes, Mitsubishi only sold 62,227 vehicles in the US in 2013, but that figure still represents an eight-percent increase. Its crossovers, the new-for-2014 Outlander and the two-year-old Outlander Sport have been selling relatively well, and the affordable Mirage subcompact is a new arrival at dealers.

Mitsubishi Pajero successor still years away, but plug-in hybrid tech likely

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

You might not know it from looking at today's Mitsubishi showrooms, but the struggling Japanese automaker has a pretty enviable reputation for producing robust off-roaders. Its Pajero SUV built a solid reputation worldwide on the back of its durability in harsh climates, earning it consideration alongside the likes of venerable explorers like the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Rover Range Rover. Unfortunately, the Pajero eventually succumbed to one particularly harsh climate - the North American truck market. After enjoying a long run, Mitsubishi finally pulled the plug on the SUV's Montero twin after the 2006 model year. Blame evolving consumer tastes, low brand visibility, a lackluster marketing budget, or the need for updated product - in fact, go ahead and blame all of the above.
Despite its age, the current fourth-generation Pajero (itself arguably an extensive rework of the previous model) has been carrying a lot of water for the brand in other parts of the world since its debut in 2006. So it's pretty well time for a new one. Problem is, its replacement is still a ways off. That's according to Australia's Go Auto, which has learned that the next-generation Pajero could still be three years away, if not longer.
According to Go Auto, the next model will be a much-changed beast, with design targets including a major weight loss and increased efficiency to go along with more luxurious appointments. In order to make gains in fuel economy, the plug-in hybrid technology that the company has already introduced for its new Outlander crossover will likely be a part of the SUV's development program.
