History:
Car has been driven responsibly by me, the single owner since new in July 2009
Maintenance records available, car maintained to Severe schedule
Car has participated in one NASA HPDE track day, Group 1. Aproximately 80 minutes of 7/10 driving.
Car has participated in about 15-20 SCCA/ AmericanAuto-X events. Approximately 5-6 minutes of 10/10 driving each.
Car has done about 5 launches, but zero on new clutch.
Car sees about 400 miles/ week of commute driving 5:30am-6:30am and 7pm-8pm.
Original Brembo Rotors, front pads replaced at 40k, rear pads replaced at 60k. Plenty of pads remaining since I do mostly highway driving.
Original rims, sway bar, air filter, antenna, cat-back exhaust available.
Additional OEM Catalytic Converter available with <10k miles on it.
Front license plate has never been installed and there are no holes in the bumper.

The Bad:
Cosmetic damage on hood and bumpers as shown in photographs. It has never been in a collision, but it has an above average amount of dents due to being parked in Downtown Berkeley/ San Francisco.
Car takes 3-4 seconds of cranking or two 1 second intervals of cranking to start, but always starts.

This car has been a blast to drive for the last 5 years, but as I'm now in my 30's I think I need something a little more grown-up. It's also a shame to put so many freeway miles on a car that is meant to be driven enthusiastically. I'd love to sell it to somebody who will continue to take great care of the car and race it once in a while. With some coil-overs and an E85 tune, this will be an absolute track beast. I expect the motor to be good for another 50-60,000 miles, at which point you'll probably want to put in a stroker with a bigger turbo. Even without the wing, this car still gets a large amount of attention, but in the 5 years I've had it I've never been pulled over or cited for a traffic violation- maybe because it has no wing. I have collected about 6 tickets from meter maids for not having a front plate, but it's worth the price to keep the front end looking great. If you have any concerns about the state of the car, I'm happy to put you in touch with my mechanic or take it to your mechanic.

No Test Drives.
If you're serious about buying the car, I'll take you for a drive.
If you bring a cashier's check, you can drive it before we sign documents.

Car is being posted for sale on Craigslist, AutoTrader and EvoXForums.

Please contact me via email if interested. Please no-low ball offers. There are no Evo X's available under $22,000.

2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport recalled over brake lamps

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

Mitsubishi is recalling certain 2013 Outlander Sport models for a couple of brake-related reasons. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the brake lamps may illuminate continuously or intermittently. On top of that, the NHTSA report states that the vehicle's shift lever could be moved out of the Park position without depressing the brake pedal.
A total of 4,539 Outlander Sport models are being recalled for these issues. All of the affected vehicles were built between June 11 and September 11, 2012.
Obviously, both of these issues can be hazardous. If the brake lamps do not illuminate properly, other vehicles may not realize that the car is stopping. And if the shift lever can be moved from Park without touching the brake pedal, the vehicle could roll away unexpectedly.

Mitsubishi boss confirms new Mirage for US; i EV enduring dismal sales

Mon, 12 Nov 2012

By March, Mitsubishi expects to have sold just 55,000 cars in the US this fiscal year. That's a tiny sum - by comparison, Honda has sold over 276,000 Civic models thus far this year - and that's just one vehicle, not an entire brand. Mitsubishi president Osamu Masuko recognizes this is not a tenable position, and he's hoping the company will shift 80,000 units next fiscal year. Warding off speculation, Masuko has repeatedly stated that his company will not retreat from the US market like competitor Suzuki.
We reported on one part of Masuko's plan, the updated Outlander, and now he has confirmed that the small Mirage will be sold in the US beginning next September. The cut-price hatchback is selling well enough that Mitsu's Thailand plant is at its full capacity of 150,000 cars. "And even at that level it's not keeping up with orders," Masuko tells Automotive News. Masuko went on to say the plant would be expanded next year to handle an extra 50,000 units. We can also expect the Outlander plug-in early 2014.

Mitsubishi denies plans for Toyota/Subaru rival sports coupe

Tue, 23 Oct 2012

Forgive us for being wistful, but there was a time when Mitsubishi coupes and sports cars were the downright awesome. The 1990s brought us the all-wheel drive, turbocharged Eclipse GSX and the twin-turbocharged 3000GT VR-4 (seen here). The times, they were good.
Fast-forward to today, and the Lancer Evolution exists as Mitsubishi's sole, true performance offering. Mitsubishi killed off the Eclipse last year, by which time it had lost much the luster of its predecessors. With an affordable Japanese sports car fomenting underway thanks to Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, one may think that it's an ideal time for a brand like Mitsubishi to jump back into the performance coupe game. A rear-drive Mitsubishi sports car to take on the Toyobaru twins could be just what the brand needs to gain some mindshare among consumers.
Not so, says Osamu Masuko. The president and executive director of Mitsubishi told reporters at the Sydney Motor Show, "Our engineers are very prominent to investigate new technologies, but to use that technology they are not that good to bring the revenue to make that money." Read: the engineers want to do it, but the company does not find it to be financially responsible.
