I have owned this car since 2006. It is in fairly good condition, and is fun to drive, but it could use some TLC. I no longer have a garage to keep it in, nor do I drive it much, so I'd like to see it in the hands of someone who can bring it back to its full glory, or at least run it more than I've been able to do lately. Because most parts are shared with the very popular Ford Galaxie, they are fairly easy to find. Vehicle starts and runs good. No cracks in dash. Top raises and lowers with no problems. To my knowledge, I am the 3rd owner. I have done the following work since owning it, and can show receipts for parts/or labor for most items listed below:

Body: Taken to bare metal and repainted, welded frame, replaced gas tank, replaced canvas top

Engine: Replaced radiator overflow, carburetor, alternator, starter, points, turned drum brakes

Interior: Replaced carpet, installed aftermarket oil and temperature gages

Known problems: Two small rust spots on body, minor pitting on chrome bumper,  interior arm rests do not match, built-in radio and temperature gage does not work, neutral safety switch needs repair (no backup lights), gas gage intermittent when gage below half full, exhaust manifold leak, superficial rust in trunk bottom, rough cranking on driver side window, loose linkage, ignition switch may need repair.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
