It's a '56 Mercury Monterey, 2 door hardtop, originally 235hp Y-block 312 with 3 speed Merc-o-matic tranny. It's originally a Kansas car and remained their until about 2007 where it ended up in southern Colorado. I bought the car in Colorado and brought it here when I moved about a year ago.
I have both a current GA registration and I kept my clear CO title for the car when I moved here.
It runs great, starts easily, even when cold, and runs very, very strong. It's very responsive and pulls very hard all the way through. All in all, it's just a really fun driver to have a good time with. It's been reliable enough that I drive it all the time, including to work on nice days and around town. I put around 250 miles a month on it.
Original motor and trans. Good glass, other than some pits and some repaired chips in the windshield. The car was hot rodded a bit back in the 60's and I believe there's been some head work and a pretty healthy cam in it. The idle quality is good, but with a bit of a lope and a little higher than stock.
Rebuilt front suspension, new shocks, tires are about a year and a half old, new brake master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, new soft lines, mostly new hard lines, new Holley carb, '57 large pattern 4 bolt intake, 1957/58 distributor (no more Loadamatic distro), rebuilt speedometer, rebuilt transmission and torque converter (was over $2100), rebuilt gas tank, rebuilt radiator, rebuilt radio, new exhaust, Red's long tube headers, 4.10 gears with new bearings and seals, and a lot more. I was even able to find an original set of fender skirts for it.
There are a few things that don't work right, like a couple of the gauges (I have spares for them) and the clock. There's a small rust spot at the top of the rear wheel arches and I have patch panels from an original car for both. There's also a bit of rust in the front floor pans.
A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 2 days of auction close either through Paypal or express mailed money order or certified check. The balance of the payment is due within 5 working days and may be cash if the car is picked up in person or with a money order, bank loan check, or certified check. Payment must clear before the car is released.
Buyer handles all shipping costs and arrangements and I would be happy to work with the shipper to schedule a time for pickup but the arrangements must be made by the buyer. If the car is to be shipped overseas, I am not responsible for dealing with customs.

The engine runs great and doesn't burn oil or coolant.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
NHTSA investigating 725k Ford, Mercury vehicles for stalling issue
Mon, 25 Feb 2013Owners of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models, listen up. According to a report on Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these four vehicles totaling an estimated 725,000 units. The investigation appears to center around a malfunctioning throttle body on non-hybrid models of the 2005-2012 Escape and 2011-2012 Fusion. With Mercury dying off after the 2011 model year, this probe will also apply to the 2005 through 2011 Mariner and the 2011 Milan. There has been some discussion around the Escape stalling issue for some time now, but this investigation appears to be larger in scope than before.
Though not a recall yet, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 123 complaints of stalling or surging vehicles, while Ford itself has logged 1,472 complaints. The investigation report, which is posted below, seems to indicate that a faulty circuit board for the throttle body could cause the vehicle to go into limp mode, which, according to NHTSA, could cause complaints of both stalling and surging.
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
