This is a very special 1946 Mercury 8 2dr Coupe. Although there is no documentation that can be obtained to prove
the claim, I am aware that I am the first civilian registered owner of this Mercury. During the frame off
restoration, a had a happenstance meeting with a gentleman who overheard me talking about the car while out at
lunch one day. He explained to me that he knew my car, I obviously thought that he knew of the 46 coupe, but not my
specific car. He went on to explain to me every large dent that was in the car and how it got there. This perked up
my ears, but still didn't make me completely believe the guy. But, once he was able to accurately describe what was
wrong with the engine, which was the #7 valve being burnt, and why it had been put in storage, I suddenly believed
everything the man said. So what makes this car so extra special? It spent its original life as a pursuit vehicle
for the Texas Rangers chasing down bootleggers between San Antonio and Abilene. Every dent that was in it came from
physically running another car off the road. He knew this information because he was a retired Texas Ranger. ( I
suspect he drove the car )
During the restoration an original style Mercury V8 24 stud Flathead installed after complete rebuild. Was bored
.125 over, aluminum Edlebrock heads, mild cam, and a few other improvements were made. All new interior made from
same type of fabric used when new. Original AM radio installed and in working condition. Original heater completely
rebuilt. Dash clock is a bran new clock from original 40's stock. Original chrome and stainless parts were
reinstalled after being re-proccessed. All new drivegear and suspension. I built this car up to be a driver and as
original as possible. I did not want it to just sit around looking good, even though it does do that very well.
When you purchase this beautiful Merc, a spare engine that needs rebuilt will accompany it as well as a bran new
Mitchell overdrive system.

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.

NHTSA investigating 725k Ford, Mercury vehicles for stalling issue

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Owners of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models, listen up. According to a report on Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these four vehicles totaling an estimated 725,000 units. The investigation appears to center around a malfunctioning throttle body on non-hybrid models of the 2005-2012 Escape and 2011-2012 Fusion. With Mercury dying off after the 2011 model year, this probe will also apply to the 2005 through 2011 Mariner and the 2011 Milan. There has been some discussion around the Escape stalling issue for some time now, but this investigation appears to be larger in scope than before.
Though not a recall yet, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 123 complaints of stalling or surging vehicles, while Ford itself has logged 1,472 complaints. The investigation report, which is posted below, seems to indicate that a faulty circuit board for the throttle body could cause the vehicle to go into limp mode, which, according to NHTSA, could cause complaints of both stalling and surging.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
