Last chance to own a true classic at an amazing price-I just don't want it to sit all winter, and I am trying to finish another project. I will keep it if it doesn't sell. I have decided to put my beloved Woody Wagon up for sale that I have now had for a few years. This could be a decent investment as these cars are going up in value. Overall the car is very solid, and except for the minor pictured blemishes, it is a very presentable car.The only reason I am selling it is because of the little use that it gets. I only drove it 3 times this year. I have a number of cars and this one by far gets the most comments...especially the license plate!I bought this 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park Wagon at an estate auction from the original owner. The owner was a doctor who meticulously maintained the car. It is vintage 1991. It even has a built-in radar detector and cell phone descrambler from 1991. This car is completely loaded and all of the electronics work. Except for a few minor blemishes, the interior is in great shape-nice tan leather. The rear window and two way tailgate also work great. The exterior has had some body work done, but some additional minor body work is needed to make it a cream puff. There is some rust here and there (including under the wood paneling-very minor) and there is also a dent on the rear passenger side trim-behind door and the dent in the back next to rear tailgate window (pictured). I never cared about the exterior blemishes. I just decided to drive it and pull my pop-up camper with it (only twice). It runs and drives great with the bullet proof 5.0. And I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. My plan was to drive it across the country, but with two young kids, that is not going to happen anytime soon. The AC needs a charge, and the power antenna motor works, but the antenna doesn't go all the way down and is not fully connected. The temp, sending unit is a little faulty (says the car is running hotter than it is) because it isn't-had it checked. The only other issue is, the heat works sporadically. From what I understand, it is the heat exchange valve that needs to be addressed...which is common in these cars. This wasn't a big deal since I never drive it in the winter anyway. These are pretty minor issues for a 22 year old car.The radiator and heater core have been fully flushed with new thermostat. The tires are like brand new & the rims are in amazing condition. Also, I just put a brand new battery in it. The car should pass inspection with no issues. It is the most comfortable ride I've ever had. And is a true 9 passenger, with the unique seats in the back. Everyone loves riding in the back (especially my son)! And when you fold down all of the seats, you will get far more room than any truck bed-it's amazing! I have slept in the back with an air mattress. These cars continue to gain value (few left). Here is a change to get one at a very reasonable starting price. The car is complete (nothing missing and even has the original radio) I even just had a U-Haul tow hitched installed, that cost $300.00. There is no title with this car, since NH doesn't require a title for vehicles over 15 years old. However, I will provide the current registration & a letter from NH DMV stating this, which should be all you need (done it before). Bid with confidence, check my feedback. Lots of thumbs up and comments on this car that I will miss. Travel in style the way they did 20+ years ago. A local paper even did an article on it. Plus, the Colony Park is now featured in the new show the Goldberg's..takes place in the 80's. This is also the exact same car that's in It's always sunny in Philadelphia. Bid with confidence, check my feedback. Reserve right to end auction early due to being for sale locally (unless there are bids of course). Good luck!

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.

Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.

Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7

Sun, 31 Jul 2011

You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.
Still, if you're willing to smell like a mountain man and look like a bad Back to the Future knockoff, this ride is right up your alley. Click past the jump to see Translogic's take on this modified Merc.
