Up for sale is my 1968 Mercury Cougar.  It needs a total restoration or for parts.  It needs:  New full floor pan, new trunk floor, new quarters, new windshield (all other glass good), new vinyl top, vacuum pump for headlight doors, sequential turn signal box for trunk, new carpet, new front seat covers, etc.  Like I said, a total restoration.  It has:  re-built 302, Holley 4bbl, Weiand intake, headers, dual exhaust, original style breaker points/condenser ignition, C4 automatic trans, good headliner, good dash pad, good rear seat.  It's a starting platform for an XR-7 recreation, GT recreation, or total pro touring beast.  I WILL NOT part out, winning bidder must take the entire car.  The car has not run/driven in 6 years so winning bidder must arrange delivery.  I do not have time to get it running, so don't ask.  Serious bidders only.  I do not have the time for games.  I know that this car is not mint, cherry, or whatever.  It's either a restoration project or parts car.  If you have a feedback of less than 10, e-mail me at ghaasl78@gmail.com and we can discuss your bid.  Also, if you have other questions about the car, feel free to email me at the address already provided.  Car is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to close the auction early.  I believe that I've given a fair and honest description of the car, if I've left anything out, I'll add it later.  A bid is a binding contract to buy the car.  Please, do not bid if you do not intend to follow through with the purchase.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.

Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes

Mon, 18 Jul 2011

Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
