I have owned this Cougar for 35 years, it is an XR/7 with AC (not working) 135,000 miles. Two years ago I installed a 351W out of a 1969 Montego. I purchased the Montego from the original owner with 76,000 original miles when it broke down and he decided to buy a new car. I installed a new timing chain and it runs just fine. This engine is a first run (never rebuilt, smokes just a bit). At that same time I installed a new TCI Torque converter, New TCI-511200 C-4 Street Fighter transmition ($880.00, have receipt) new tires, new dual exhaust, Edelbrock 4 barrel intake, professionally rebuilt ford 4 barrel carb from Pony Carbs. I also have a new set of Edelbrock valve covers (never installed) the original intake manifold, the original AC compressor, original hub caps and some other parts that will go with it. The paint job is 25 years old and looks OK from the side but is faded on the top. The dash is original and not cracked, the carpet is the original carpet. I installed a sun roof 25 years ago also (no leaks) this Cougar has been kept in a climate controlled garage most of the 35 years I have owned it. I take it out every month or so for a run into town and sometimes my kids like to take it into town (they always get a lot of comments when they do) I also have a used center console for a 1968 XR/7 to put back into it. It has a new stereo with new speakers as well. The hood scoop and Spoiler are off of a 1969 Eleminator, I unbolted them myself. If you have any questions please ask.

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues
Wed, 28 Dec 2011'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe
Mon, 17 Dec 2012According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"
eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease
Wed, 29 Jan 2014Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
