Enfield, Connecticut, United States
For sale is my 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7. 289-4V ( A code ) C-4 Automatic, 9 inch rear with 3.25 gears and an Equal-Loc diff. Rear end comes from a 67' Cougar GT. Car has a 67' correct Transverse dual exhaust. Car was used to prototype the exhaust for a local reproduction exhaust supplier. Original 67' Styled Steel wheels, NOS trim rings ( still have boxes ) and repro center caps. Firestone Indy 500s P215/70/14. Power drum brakes that were updated with larger drums taken from the same 67' GT the rear end came from. Power steering. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner ( less then 20,000 on rebuild ). Stock manifolds and intake, Holley 600cfm carb, stock ignition. Runs strong, exhaust sounds good, in and outside of the car! I am the fourth owner of this car, and knew both the second and third owner. Car was mildly restored by the second owner ( have pics showing work done ). Third owner tried " hot rodding " it a bit, was bought by me before he could do any permanate damage . Tracked down 95% of the original parts and put the car back to stock. Have owned the car since 2003, need to sell to complete restoration on another project. Have driven car less then 5,000 miles since buying it. Would like to see it go to a good home! Any questions or concerns please ask!

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder
Fri, 11 Jul 2014There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman
Wed, 17 Nov 2010Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception
Tue, 25 Sep 2012It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
