1967 Mercury Cougar Base 4.7l on 2040-cars
La Grande, Oregon, United States
I started it today and it sounds like it might need some engine work. I was hoping for light mechanical but no deal. The front fenders are off a 1968 Cougar. From what I can tell they were replaced due to an accident. All the glass looks to be original except the windshield and drivers main door glass. There is some rust and overall, you should go through this top to bottom. I'll try to list enough pics to satisfy all questions. Needs all new upholstery, headliner, paint, tires. No warranty of course. Your bidding on a 1967 Cougar that has sat around for years. I bought it 2 weeks ago and just jump started it with a carb full of fresh gas. It ran till the gas ran out, but is making a noise in the engine. A guy up my street says he thinks it needs lifters?? I have no idea. I have a few pics of some numbers, decipher what you can, cause I don't have a clue if it's all original. I have no way to verify if the engine, transmission, carburetor, fuel pump or anything else for that matter is original, so I tried to show all pertinent photos to help you decide.

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease
Wed, 29 Jan 2014Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
