This car is a very good running unit with an impressive list of options including: V8 engine (A Code), automatic transmission, limited slip differential, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning (the original York AC compressor died and was replaced with a modern Sanden compressor which is lighter and much more efficient than the stock York), remote control driver’s side rear view mirror, windshield washer, intermittent wipers, heavy duty cooling package. It also has the following after market add ons: dual exhaust, mag wheels, chrome air cleaner, 1 inch sway bar, new Holley carburetor, coolant recovery system. It has a new fuel pump and battery.

The car is rust free and the body is in nice shape except for an old repair on the left rear quarter panel that will need to be fixed. The bumpers have been rechromed. It has the original jack The interior is in excellent condition with new door sills, new carpets, new seat upholstery and a new top boot. It could use a new top. Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
