This SLK350 is in excellent condition inside and out. The interior still looks and smells like new. The exterior is in excellent condition as well and has no visible scratches or dings that I can notice other than some scratches in the drivers side mirror which have been filled in and are only noticeable upon close inspection. The AMG wheels do have a couple scuffs on them as seen in the pictures. The retractable hard top works perfectly. I have had this car for a couple years and it is no longer practical for my needs. The are only two issues that I can think of with the vehicle. The LED parking lights in the passenger side headlight just went out and will need replaced. The keyless entry fob works but you have to stand right next to the vehicle for it to function. The shop determined this to be an issue with the actual key itself and nothing with the vehicle. I just never bothered to replace it since it still worked just fine right next to the vehicle. The tires are in decent shape but the rear tires will probably need to be replaced in the next few thousand miles or so. I just had a brand new Bosch battery installed which was over $300. Piloting an 8,500-pound motorized house down the highway is far from my idea of fun, yet inexplicably, I'm enjoying myself. My grin has nothing to do with my camper's handling, as this heavily accoutered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter drives like a 25-foot long breadbox. My smile has nothing to do with on-road stability, as the ten-foot-tall, slab-sided vehicle reacts to wind gusts like the vertical stabilizer on a Boeing jet. My delight has nothing to do with its throttle or braking response, either, as both are as numb as your forehead after the eighth beer.
This monstrosity makes me happy for one reason - my passengers are undeniably having a good time.
Next Mercedes-Benz GLK to get AMG variant? Not likely...
Fri, 15 Mar 2013If you think Mercedes-Benz will slap an AMG badge on anything with wheels, think again. Word has it the German manufacturer will not offer buyers a performance version of the GLK, with Tobias Moers, director of AMG vehicle development, saying that he doesn't see a market for the car. That's not to say the picture won't change in the near future, however. According to CarAdvice.com, AMG is keeping a close eye on the arrival of the Porsche Macan.
"Maybe there will be a change in the market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up," Moers said, "but right now, no."
The real hitch in the giddy-up seems to be cost. Moers says developing the machine into something worthy of an AMG would represent "a huge investment." We can't exactly argue with that. Fortunately, AMG buyers have plenty of Mercedes-Benz models to choose from.
